Question on my first restoration?

I started my first restoration, a nice Culmak butterscotch.
I drilled out the knot, it was harder than I thought.

The hole looks like 20mm to me. (?)
So do I buy a 20mm knot?

just a thought you might consider using calibers you can pick up a digital set for $15.00- $25.00
this way you can measure both accurately for a snug fit.

That is beautiful.

Most TGN knots will fit (from our experience)
A quote from Tony's site:

Measurements- Just a word on knot measurements. PLUG size generally runs about 1mm less than the description size + or - .5mm, so a 22mm knot can have a plug size of 20.5mm to 21.5mm. Knots with extra hair, will generally be a touch WIDER above the plug, do to the extra packing of hair. So using a 22mm knot with extra hair the bulge of hair above the plug may be 23mm. The height of the plug is about 8mm in general. The LOFT is the measurment of from the bottom of the base plug to the tips measured in mm. I wish the measurments were more exacting, but we are dealing with hand made natuaral hair items.

Hope this helps, I would use a 20mm.

Thanks for the great advice. I placed my order for a
1 x 20mm Finest Badger Fan Shape.
Looking forward to my new vintage brush!

I'm also restoring a butterscotch with a 20 mm hole but would love the extra hair version. Does this mean I will better of with a 19 mm with extra hair or will I be able to fit a 20 mm with extra hair?

20mm w/extra hair might be a bit too wide to get all the way in there. However, a 20mm standard would probably fit and be nice and snug, which would make the knot feel a little denser anyway. If it were me, I'd probably get a 20mm Super Fan or 20mm Finest two-band (regular, not extra). Might go in tight, but would result in a denser knot.
