Question for the Trumpers Rose experts

So my son on a visit loved my rose in a bowl so I gave it to him.I decided I also loved it and after eight months finally bought one in the classifieds. It came today so I took my Rooney brush and whipped up a beautiful, thick, slick lather. The soap I had before was a dark dusty rose color. This soap is barely pink. Here's the question....Is there an older version or is this one just faded? The rose smell is nice and strong.

I heard actually read there was a previous tallow version of Geo F. Trumpers soaps series. They said good old tallow Trumper which is a great fellow every shaver. FYI firstly I search the forum and then I could not find my answer, I will ask my question as a thread like using an encyclopedia. I think everybody's time is important Mr. President.

The colour of the Rose soap varies a bit from batch-to-batch, I've had one puck that was dark pink and another that was very light pink, but the other 3/4 pucks of it I've been through have been somewhere in between. The scent strength also varies a little in a similar way, but its a very nice soap regardless, one of the best out there.

Yep. It's been tallow free the last few years. :a31::letterk2:

It's still a pretty darn good soap.

What are you talking about?

From what I've read, the soaps were reformulated and the tallow discontinued in 2006. I have a bowl of the rose soap which I purchased online in November 2007... I used it a few times, forgot about it, and then dug it out of the cupboard this past summer. Still works a treat.

I've heard that the smell and colour of a soap will degrade over time; if yours still has a strong smell, I don't think it could be that old. I can't say for certain whether mine has lightened in colour over the past 3 years, but I doubt it, and since LU02 has owned a number of them, I'd take his advice on the disparity of colour. Mine smells fine and the colour is currently identical to this:

Matt, if I could paraphrase his answer, I think he was going for the classic forum response "The search function is your friend". Being as the responder is Turkish, I would guess English is not his primary language so things get lost in translation.

I see both sides to this. In these days of instant gratification, we come to expect anything we want to know will be instantly made available to us. Outstanding forums like B&B are enablers of this mind set as the good and knowledgable folks here will go out of their way to provide whatever information or opinions they have to people trying to figure something out. Often asking your specific question will yield a more focused response than wading through the 400 results returned by your search.

I've (and actually am currently in the middle of) experienced the sense of frustration and disappointment felt when you ask a question and receive no replies to it, watching it slowly sink to pg 2, pg 3...., until it is eventually lost in the large volume of traffic an active forum experiences.

On the other hand, forum regulars ( not speaking specifically to this question or even this forum) often tire of answering the same questions over and over. Some (same caveat as above) even come to resent the sucking up of bandwidth by what they consider frequently covered topics. I've been on forums where asking a question you could have found covered in a old thread was so taboo you would get foamed within an inch of your life for daring to post without exhausting your search options first. Every single post HAD to begin with "I've searched every thread I could find and could not find this answer...."

As mentioned, people have lives and while we all enjoy our discussions and community here, even the most active and knowledgeable people can't respond to ever single question within minutes of the origional posting.

The bottom line for me, is I understand this is a place people come to share and enjoy our common interest. It isn't an electronic version of the answer man. If I post a question and no one knows or posts a response to it, I'm disappointed but I don't get upset about it. I'm here because I enjoy the discussions. I learn a lot and may even, occasionally offer something someone may find helpful.

Anyway, that is my take on the post(s) you were questioning.

I apologise for the long winded response. Please take it in the helpful spirit it was intended.

Cheers!

Ken

I think he's chewing me out for asking the question instead of digging through old threads to find the answer.I'd rather ask Oprah......

Even though she probably thinks she does, I doubt O really knows much about wet shaving :biggrin1:

Anyway, I wish I could have helped you out but I've sadly never had a puck of GFT. Maybe Christmas will remedy that:thumbup: but it still won't help with your question.

I was very interested to hear opinions on your question and was equally sad with you when none were initially offered.

Regardless, it's a good question.

Cheers, Bro!

I rather enjoyed being called "mister President".Maybe I'll change my user name.I'm going to go shave for church right now and use my rose soap and Gillette President.:biggrin1:

Thank you for your clarifications about me. I just like to say I have enlightened from B&B and you guys. On the other hand I sometimes say things so directly but I do not want to be offensive. By the way you have missed nothing about GFT. It is not the best soap (non-tallow version) on the market but you should try it for treating your SSAD.:biggrin1:

Nice avatar. If I know your name, I can call you with it. Besides, "Mr. President" fits your avatar and I hope you like it.:thumbup1:

Exactly. When crossing language, culture and country boundaries, communication is so much more difficult. Add to that, even native speakers of any given language can choose the wrong word or misspell something, it can get very complicated. I find my iPad frequently wants to "correct" my spelling by changing to a completely different (and incorrect) word. It drives me NUTS! (by silly example, it always wants to "correct" kbuzbee to iguanas! Aargh!:001_cool:)

In a past life, I managed a global email network for a fortune 500 company. I can't begin to tell you how many initial "misunderstandings" had to be resolved through patience and persistence. It really raised my awareness of the issues, that are so much more than simple language differences. I very much enjoy your posts and find it fun to derive your intended communication:thumbup: takes me back to those "working" days:biggrin1:

Christmas gift or not, I'm sure a puck or two of GFT will find it's way here one day in the not too distant future. I've been pretty lucky, so far. Reading reviews here first, I've been quite happy with most of the soaps I've tried. A couple just never worked out, of course, but I feel quite fortunate to have so many that I'm so happy with.

Thanks for the input, though.

Ken,

Thanks for the translation...:thumbup1: And your insight, but I think that if we only used the search function instead of posting our questions B&B would be less of a forum where people interact and more of a data repository where all we do is search for answers. It seems these days that this is the norm more that the exception. To me it seems that the B&B we have now is not the same friendly B&B we had in 2007 when I joined. In my opinion, it has become a forum where some common topics can not be openly discussed without fear of retribution or flaming. I can think of quite a few well-respected members who this has happened to and are now only found on the "other" shaving forums for this specific reason. Even such shaving legends as Mantic59 do not regail us as in years past. It is quite sad actually.

I for one would rather see topics I have read a thousand different ways than to simply search through posts from the past. This way even though I may have first-hand experience I can see what others, perhaps newer members, successes as well as failures are. I do not think we can get that from searching through past posts alone, even with the ginormous membership at B&B.

I couldn't agree with you more! I personally enjoy the discussions, at least as much as the "pure" information gleaned. I am happy to discuss the same topic repeatedly. i always come away with some tid bit I didn't know and I make friends along the way. I can understand the opposite sentiment but I don't live it:wink2: Thanks for the soapbox, my brother! Well intended and well received!:thumbup1: This is a community, not a database. I hope we can keep that spirit alive.

Cheers!
