Question about Gillette #58, #66, and #21

I am looking at purchasing one of these razors if I can find them in nice condition. If I find all of these models in nice condition maybe I'll purchase them all. My question is this; what is a fair price for these razors? With or without a box?

Thank you,

Justin

a "fair price" will bring up a number of different issues amongst the members; the usual line will be " a fair price is a price you're willing to pay". i can tell you the maximum price over the last 6-9 months i've seen the 21 sell for is $285, the 58 for $346, and the 66 for $250; all with cases. the minimum price varies tremendously by item, condition, condition of case, phases of the moon, menstrual cycle, etc. the minimum i've seen is 145 for the 21, 104 for the 66, and 97 for the 58, all with cases. w/o cases i've seen 20, 90, and 55 respectively.
one way to gauge prices is to do a search on the b/s/t forum for the particular item and check sold for prices and condition, you can also do a completed listings search on ebay for the last 30 days, but on ebay you will have to be creative because these are frequently not listed by number; they may be listed as "aristocrat" or "british aristocrat" or "vintage gillette safety razor" or even other terms, be sure to include other countries in your search.

I paid around $100 for a decent (tho not perfect) #58 with a case a few months back and around $45 for a user grade #58 that I have currently.

In San Francisco last November I found a NOS #66 in a store affiliated with the local church. Out in the open on top of a display case was the #66 mint in case and asking price was $88. (Yes an unreal AND strange price). I snagged it for $75!

This is now my everyday Nirvana, Holy Grail, "Holy Rhodium Platted Batman" razor.

My advice, if you find a 66er in good to NOS condition, grab it at any price if you have the funds. I would easily pay $250+ if my razor vanished and it's twin brother became available.

I have all three...my favourite would have to be my #21, followed by the #66 and finally the #58...the first two are very close. I find the three to be slightly less aggressive than their american counterpart...absolutely beautiful razors...
