Pulled the trigger on a new brush

Ok Guys, I pulled the trigger on a new boar brush. It hasn't got here yet l, but I'm looking forward to it. It's an Omega 10066. What can I expect from this?

You can typically expect performance and value well above the cost of an Omega boar brush. They take a bit to break in, but when they do they seem to offer good backbone, soft tips and I just the right amount of scritch for me.

I don't have a 10066 but I do have the 80266 and it is great. Soft tips. Enough backbone. It didn't take too long to break in. And very affordable. Everything I look for in a boar brush.
If I'm being real picky, I could say the handle feels cheap. But it doesn't really bother me

I've read that about the Omega.

I'm looking forward to the scritchiness.

You guys seem to use and love this brush...

For 10 or more years 10066 has been the one with more scratchiness and backbone (out of the two models: 10065 and 10066).
But in the recent 3-4 years this changed. I bought two 10066 2-3 years ago that were floppier than 10065. Very floppy and super shedding.
So we cannot tell you what batch will you receive. After 2019 Omega is not as consistent as previously.

For the record: Currently do not have a 10066, even though I have more than 100 Omega boars. But I had at least 6 Omega 10066 brushes in the last 15 years.

80266 is different. It is not only about a painted band on the knot.

Imo, it's better to soak a brush at least 7 minutes. In this way the brush won't "eat" lather during the shave. Just my experience:straight:

Great, so I can soak while in the shower.

Others may have different results, but I only soak about 1/3 to 1/2 of the knot. This gives you soft tips but improves backbone. I soak it while I shower. I must say that I'm mostly a Badger guy and only use a boar every couple of months.

I have 3 badger brushes. Two whipped dog and one Liojuny. I'm just interested in trying out a boar brush.

I bought my Omega 10066 years ago, but I found it to be a very good everyday brush. I always soaked mine in warm water while I showered and the brush is ready to go after I get done showering.

The 10066 definitely punched way above it's weight. If I hadn't gone down the whole shaving brush rabbit hole, I would probably still be happily using the 10066 and Pro 48 that I bought after the knot in my 1st Amazon Escali badger brush exploded. 😁

Don't know if this is your first boar bristle brush. That Omega will be very stiff at first but when it breaks in you'll never go back to a badger hair brush, IMHO. My Semogue brush has softened up dramatically over time, yet is still just scratchy enough. When I got an Omega years ago I would watch TV and brush my palm with it to break it in.

I'm finding myself reaching for my boars about as often as my badgers.
Some days it depends a little bit on what soap I'm using. I tend to use boars on the firmer soaps so I don't overload quite so easily, but a good boar broken in over time is as good as most badgers to me personally.
