Proraso Pre-Post Shave Cream

Hi,

I went along to Turkish Barbers and they used this stuff pre-and post shave with Hot Towels.

I'm tempted to purchase some since I love the smell, but:

I don't need anything for pre-shave at home since I enjoy a long hot shower beforehand so my beard is always nicely prepared.
But, as I love the smell, is it good as an post shave balm? Will it noirish and protect my skin afterwards?

Thanks for comments

Welcome to B&B. Hope you find out little corner of the world to you liking. There is plenty to see and learn on the various forums.

I actually use Proraso Pre/Post only as an aftershave balm. It never impressed me a great deal as a pre-shave but I love the chilly blast after a shave. A tiny bit goes a long way to making my face feel great.

Welcome to B&B.

I don't really care for pre-shave products let alone Proraso Pre/Post Cream. However, Proraso (Green) soap is one of my favorite. Give it a try.

Thanks,
Mike

Thanks Daniel,

So, is it ok for a post shave? I've generally use Nivea After Shave as an After shave balm, does Proraso have nice nourishing properties for your skin?

Thanks Mike. I use Proraso cream from a tube and lather in a cup. A little goes a long way and this will last me at least one year, so it'll be ages before I can give the soap in a bowl a try.

It isn't the most moisurizing balm out there. It tightens the skin and provides some cooling those I why I like it.

According to the manufacturer (Ludovico Martelli company) the new Proraso cream without parabens has been formulated to be a pre-shave treatment only, while the older was a pre-post. I've heard some friends saying it's still good to be used as a post shave, but I've never personally used it for that purpose.

I did look closely at the images on amazon, and it did only say Pre balm so you have confirmed. If I buy this, it will just be for the smell (which I love).

Thanks Daniel. I think for now, I'll stick with dedicated Post Shave Balms - as my skin tends to need noirishment after a shave.

I use it for pre-shave

Really like the scent and the cooling feeling that my face get's from it. I think with the ingredients that are in it. It will give your face some nourishment.

To buy. Or not to buy. That is the question. :)

I use it daily as a pre, not sure if there is a huge benefit but I like the feeling and smell in the morning, I also use nivea balm and have been known to add a dab of prorasso in my post balm for an extra kick.

I used it for post shave this winter and loved it instead of aftershave. You just need to get the right amount mixed with a bit of water. As a pre shave in the shower I think it's great too. You're not going to get an oil-like lube, but it'll wake you up. I used it this morning and the coolness lasted through into the third pass!

Great stuff...

I have used it as a post shave. I thought it was great. I recently got the Proraso Aftershave and it is nice as well. I think the pre-shave cream gives a longer chilly effect and I loved the way my face felt afterwards.

Give it a try. It feels great as a preshave too.

I was something of a fan of this as a pre-shave (think its not really a post shave product at all).

Stopped using it.

No effect on my shave resulted.

Stopped buying it.

I scored several pre-ban jars on a clearance. It is a nice item to have in the rotation and complements the C. O. Bigelow version of their cream very nicely. Works as well as any other pre shave item I have used with the benefit of boosting the cream somewhat. I have not used it as an after shave product as of yet.

I love it as a post shave. I've been using Noxzema as a pre shave and I can't tell a difference between the two. What I have noticed by using it as part of my post is that it cools, however, reduces redness like nothing else I've tried. It doesn't do much in terms of nourishment, but works well as part of my larger routine.

New formula doesn't work as a post at all for me personally. It never absorbs into the skin but just leaves a pasty film on my face. Great as a pre shave only though.
