Proraso minus the menthol?

I am looking for a product exactly like Proraso, but minus the menthol. I love the lather, protection, and cushion of the Proraso, but hate the menthol feel.

Has anyone found a good replacement?

Try Proraso's white tub version....it has a very low menthol content, barely noticeable and contains green tea and aloe.

Are you talking about the "Sensitive Skin" version?

Yep...that stuff...if your looking for another good cream that's pretty available try the Real Shave Co. cream....no menthol. You can also look at other Italian soaps like Valobra or Cella, both have sweet almond scents.

That one wouldn't smell like Proraso (barbershop).

Omega shaving cream is very similar and possibly have 1/2 the menthol.

Musgo Real is worth a try I think.

The very best replacement to the Green Proraso was the Red Proraso, which was very lightly mentholated. Unfortunately, this great Italian barbershop shaving cream is no longer produced.

Santa Maria Novella shave cream is rumored to be the same cream as Proraso, with a different scent and no menthol. Not sure though... Can anyone here confirm or confound this rumor?

Well thanks for bringing that up again. I'm off to go cry into my lather bowl.:crying:

SMN is certainly similar to Proraso. It has less menthol but not zero menthol. The scent is a little "darker" to me. I prefer its scent, but it's not a great one. The lather is much nicer from SMN, and the shave qualities of the lather is far superior to Proraso (at least for me).

However, it is still not a solution to the OP's problem.

Sounds like he wants any shave cream that produces a nice lather without menthol. There are literally hundreds of options, so it is hard to answer his question.

I've got a similar problem to the OP...I absolutely love what Proraso pre/post does for my shave, but I'm not as big a fan of the menthol blast before every single shave...anybody know of similar pre-shave creams without menthol? (Aside from the white-tub pre/post, which I'll definitely try but I'd prefer something menthol-free, not just lighter.)

Your question's akin to wanting a Mitchell's Wool Fat without the lanolin. But now that I'm thinking lanolin, why not give Godrej a try?

I agree 100%. The menthol just agitates my skin in a not so kind way... :thumbdown

Jam, why not try the new Acca Kappa 1869 shaving cream? It has a lovely Almond fragrance and shaves VERY well...

Try the Omega soap in the black tub.

That one wouldn't smell like Proraso (barbershop).

I'm surprised that people are suggesting Omega. I would have said that the Omega tub I have is definitely more mentholated than that tube of CO Bigs rotting under my sink (which everyone says is the same as Proraso). It smells a lot better too (like a bar of Dove!)
