Proraso Green and Alum irritation?

Does anyone find Proraso Green and Alum are not friendly?

I got some irritation this morning after using the Green line end to end with a mix of Alum. My face was ablaze to the point I washed it all off and just put some witch hazel on.

... just wondering if anyone else ever experienced this.

Never experienced any issues myself. Of course, I rinse my face very well with hot water, then switch to cold and rinse again, so there is little if any Proraso left on my face. Then, with my face still wet, I use the alum bar. It definitely stings, but not unbearably so.

Sorry to hear about your unsuccessful try with the "green". I used my first tube of green plain w/o anything yesterday. I had no problems. Except a really super close shave. Good luck in finding the right cream.

I used the green today.

My routine this morn:
Proraso Pre
Proraso green tub + Omega badger
Schick injector
Alum block w/ cold water
Witch Hazel
Nivea AS balm
Proraso AS Splash

No problems. Proraso is one of my favorite shave products (YMMV).

Sorry to hear you had such a reaction!

I use those, but haven't had an issue like that. I do cold water shave though. I rinse my face off with cool water, rub on the alum, then after a few moments rinse the alum off with cool water, towel dry and apply Proraso green AS.

Wish I had something to say to help you out.

Thanks for the input gents... I've used Proraso Green successfully before. I think my skin may be too sensitive for daily alum use. I'm going to lay off the block for a while. I did have a great BBS shave yesterday afternoon and went at it again this morning. I should've gave my face a breather. No way I'm giving up on the Green! How can I turn my back on my first! :tongue_sm

I find that Proraso green a little over-powering personally. What I use it for now is as a pre-shave that I put on prior to showering - nice mentholated sensations. Then I apply the wheat & green tea grey stuff, which I find does as good a job but with a less intense scent.

I'm finding my best shaves now come when I apply the pre-shave before each pass. Makes an incredible difference - e.g. with my Fatboy I can get sticky smooth BBS everywhere including the neck going WTG at '9' and then XTG and ATG at '7'. Previously I was getting this kind of result with an R41 but it was taking too long.

I'd be surprised if daily alum use was in any way a problem.

The green works very well for me.

If I apply too much pressure and get some burn the alum sure does let me know. I've been thinking of dropping it for a while and using just witch hazel after a cold rinse.

Shower. Proraso white. Make foam. Foam over Proraso. Shave. Wash. Alum. Wash. Witch Hazel. If irritation is mild, back to Proraso.
For me Proraso Pre/Post is a great moisturizer. Keeps my skin moist and supple.

Before i switched to cold water shaving, everything irritated me. I even keep the soaps and cremes alum, as balms etc in the fridge. YMMV. I always finish off with alum, rose water and balm. I tend to stay away from too much scents but i do use the green white and the preshave.

Is this the first time you used alum? How was your face after washing alum off?
