Proraso and Tabac- Now I understand what the fuss is all about

Hello Gents,
When are you no longer a "Newbie" to wet shaving?
Anyway, I tried the Tabac and the scent is pleasant and masculine. No flowery purfume here. It lathers up quick and thick and is not as runny as some of the other soaps I have tried. I can tell a difference as far as protection goes too. It helps the razor or rather helps me with the razor to get a better shave with no nicks.
The Proraso was a nice discovery as well. I bought the cream. The first shave showed me that I used to much. At first it didn't look like it but after a few seconds of mixing with my brush I realized that I could have gotten by with a lot less. Good stuff! Again this is a very protective soap/cream that I will contimue to have nearby.

I want to thank this site and its members for it's information and helpfulness.

You've discovered a couple of the tried and true classics in Tabac and Proraso. I'd say your not a newbie when you have more than one of everything: razor, cream, soap, brush, blades, aftershave :001_cool:

Remember gents, Tabac soap and Proraso cream, not the other way around. Not that the Tabac cream or Proraso soap is abysmal, but not nearly as famed as the alternatives.

I personally love both of these, and found them to outperform products twice the price.

I don't get why a flower scent can't be masculine. That powdery scent we all love in Clubman. . .that is a flower.

Spot on with your Tabac recommendation. Tabac cream is not so good while the soap is very nice. Proraso, however, is good in either soap or cream. I do not find that one performs much different than the other. YMMV, of course.

Fair enough - I have found the cream to provide a superior lather, but it has been quite a while since that Proraso soap sample.

My second brush, the B&B 2009 LE, just came in yesterday. Glad to know I'm no longer a newbie after 20 years with my '54 Gillette. Now, do I actually have to use the second brush before graduating? 'cause then I'm still a newbie for another hour or so.

Glad you found some things you like. There's plenty of other soaps and creams that are better than these. Hopefully, you'll try some of those, too.

My wife is in the first trimester of pregnancy and thus easily nauseated and very sensitive to smells, and lately she's been keeping her distance from me after I shave. I've been using Proraso soap and Nivea Sensitive ASB just about every day, so I figured it was one of those two. She took a cautious sniff of the soap and then the balm and I was relieved when the balm turned out to be the culprit. I get to keep using the Proraso soap, and now I also get to shop for a new ASB. :thumbup1:

I just got myself Tabac shaving soap after reading so much positive feedback from B&B gents. Smells really good. I anticipate very enjoyable and comfortable shaves with it.
As for Proraso, it is readily available in Toronto both as cream & soap. I have only used the soap version so far - very impressive - and boy it is cooling! - very good for hot summer days.

+1 on that.
