What's new

Pricey Tech - cause it's shiny?

I'm new to all this, been seeking (and receiving) good advice on these boards, and I keep hearing that a Tech costs about 5 to 10 bucks, maybe 15 shipped.

Shopping around, I noticed this Sorry, no live ebay links allowed on eBay is creeping up towards $30 shipped. I'm curious why. It does look to be in great shape, nice and shiny, nice pic. Do people think it's worth it, or just auction madness and a nice presentation?

Not sure why the price is so high, but you can't post links to live eBay auctions. What if someone was hoping it wouldn't go past $30, and you've alerted the competition? :wink2:

Thanks for pointing that out Christian, I got so flummoxed by the situation, I didn't even think of the No Ebay links rule.

A couple of weeks ago on ebay I won an unused 1959 (E-2) Tech with the cardboard blade still in it for $16. I was the only bidder. I place a lot of low razor bids on ebay for fun. Most times I lose, but sometimes I get lucky. The trick is not to care. There will always be other razors. If I was really looking for a particular razor, I'd place a WTB on B&B.

What cfriend said about live eBay links. Mods will sometimes edit posts to remove them.

I paid $20 shipped for one tech only because it was from my birth year and quarter (and shiny). Wouldn't have paid that much otherwise. I suppose it's just possible that all the bidders on this one really want a B1 Tech for some reason, but most likely it's just foolishness.

It is possible that certain Techs may sell for more than others. I, for one, would pay little for a later Tech, but would pay a little more for one of the early ones from the late 1930s. It has just a little bit different set up and you don't see them quite as often as the later ones. That said, even the early ones are not by any means rare. But sometimes not all Techs are exactly alike.

I just bought a Gillette tech razor on E-Bay this week - with shipping it came to $10.55. It wasn't perfect but not too bad either and actually a pretty nice razor. Now I have to do the waiting game dance - waiting for the shipping.

What I noticed is that prices are all over the place. Especially on the "perfect" ones. I suggest you go on E-bay and watch a number of razors and see what they ultimately go for. Do this for a couple of weeks to convince yourself of the variation. By then you know a good deal when you find it.

I put down an offer on a mint alu handled tech in a box for 17.50 (in euro's) last week. For that kinda money you might consider to replate a battered (and cheap) one.

After purchasing a couple of techs on ebay, I found two techs at an antique store. The antique store finds are much more satisfying and cheaper.

I got 2 new old stock Techs for 16 dollars each...so I am pleased and I am a Tech fan...works for me with the right blade (Shark)
