preshave oil

I know that there are those of you who probably swear by this stuff. I, myself, hadn't used any until this morning. I found a small bottle at Walmart (of all places) called ShaveSecret (cost $3.58 so I couldn't just pass it up for a try).
It did give me a pretty good shave using it under my normal shave cream.
I was wondering if anyone else had tried this oil and what there thoughts were.

I tried AOS and did not like it that much. Then I found JOHNSON'S® Baby Oil with Aloe Vera & Vitamin E, and I am hooked!

I've tried Shave Secret on several occasions, both as a preshave and as a shaving oil as per directions. Although Shave Secret seems to protect while shaving, I found I needed to shave with more pressure due to razor glide actually being reduced. I've not tried any high end oils, but after 45 years of daily shaving, a proper lather works best for me.

I tried baby oil a few days ago for no particular reason at all...worked very well as a pre-shave with shave soap.

When I used a DE, I would use a pre shave oil for a final buffing wherever there was a little roughness.

For every shave I use Shave Secret as a pre-shave oil under a tallow soap (usually Tabac). Adding Shave Secret has eliminated irritation and leaves my skin feeling supple and conditioned.

I swear by the stuff and I recently converted a friend to it. It's far better than AOS oil in my opinion.

I use AOS oil just because a friend gave it to me as a gift - I probably wouldn't buy it myself... I hear Proraso is great- and my father in law recommended 'Prep'...

I make my own and if you want to try it go ahead, it works for me. I make a little at a time so you always have a fresh supply. I make it in the little empty bottles they sell for traveling, so if I need to travel I can take it with me all the time. Just fill a bottle with olive oil and a few drops of Lavender Essential Oil. I use the lavender to give it a nice scent and as a preservative since the bottle stays in the bathroom oh and lavender aids in healing.
