Preshave oil on brushes?

Hello,

I have just used a sample pack for today's shave. It covered all three stages - preshave oil, shaving cream and an after shave balm.

This was my first time using preshave oil and I do like this extra skin preparation stage although I was initially surprised at the thickness of it and had my doubts! Having said that, I was equally surprised and impressed that it all shaved me beautifully and didn't clog up anything. But when I was finished it was harder to clean the basin and this got me thinking about the brush.

When cleaning the brush out in hot water afterwards it seemed to be beading a little but I washed it out and towel dried as usual.

Do you think that the preshave oils have any longer term affect on a brush and should I be taking any extra steps to clean the bristles or treat the brush after shaving now?

Thanks for any advice and tips - it's always very appreciated.

I do think they cause long term damage to the brush...I used to use pre-shave oil but nowadays here is what I do:

1) Apply Johnson's baby oil prior to showering
2) Shower and use a moisturing face wash (OIld Of Olay for me works)
3) then lather and shave

I seem to get better reults than applying pre-shave oil, lather and shave...

I use a preshave oil sometimes, but after seeing what the sink looked like I changed up the routine a little.
after I get out the shower a apply about 3 or 4 drops of oil to my hands and rub it into my face (which is still moist from the shower).
I then make my lather in a bowl and lightly brush on a thin layer, the bristles never really touch my face.
At that point I take a hot washcloth and rest it over my beard till it starts to cool off.
I use the washcloth and wipe the soap/oil off. beard/face is very soft at this point.
Then I simply lather up and shave. Sink rinses right out!

You only need a couple of drops of oil to properly lubricate and soften your skin. If there's enough product to noticeably interfere with your cleanup afterwards, you probably used way too much.
