The virus is easing up and one of my honey hole Wednesday markets is back in business, YEAH!!!. And if that’s not enough, after waking up to 80° weather every day for months, this morning was 65°, YEAH!!!. Just a matter of time before the snowbirds return with my winter tribute. Until then five new stones, a 7 and 6 inch Thuri, the 7” has a two band hiding under the funk. Two mystery stones, 7 x 1 3/4 x 1 1/4 and a molted 7 x 2 1/2 x 3/4, maybe a Vermont hiding and a 7 inch natural Coticule hiding under the dirt. To the dip we go
I am joining the replacement joint club on Monday. For the month of October I am relinquishing all of my above ground mineral and geological rights in Florida to all shoppers. I asked for a new hip with the overdrive option so come November I’ll be tearing through those fields. Don’t get in my way. Happy hunting
Thanks brother, I will persevere. Surgeon says I’ll be in at 5 AM and should be home by 5 PM. I’ll be doing the Macarena in a couple of weeks. Then I will continue my mission of depleting the wild of hones and stones
The hip is done, recovery is over. A hurricane is heading straight for me, long lines at the grocery store, what better time to go hunting. Several antique stores and honey hole junk shops later, I think I did good. A soft Ark, a Washita, and a labeled Escher. Now to pick up tree branches
Nice stone @TurtlePL hope it’s feedback is in German
Sometimes you’re the windshield and sometimes you’re the bug. I don’t normally buy online but this one looked exciting. Picture looked interesting enough to ask some questions.
Is it smooth, yes
Is it heavy for a size, weighs about 2 pounds
What is it size, 6“ x 3“ by 1 inch thick
Will you mail to me, yes
That’s enough info to take a gamble for five dollars. Not quite sure what it is, but it looks like a piece of tongue and groove flooring. In the dip right now with some other stones. I’ll see what I have in a few days
A few new pick ups from this weekend market, a 5 inch Coticule, a 6 inch Thuringian, and a 8 inch stone that is hard, heavy with a high pitch ring. We will see what the dip has to say
Thank you very much. Recovery has been excellent. Pickings have been good but there is a big gear missing in the dirt mall works. No Canadians yet. They usually start arriving after Canadian Thanksgiving but not yet. I can tell they are here when I see Ontario License plates in the left-hand lane of the interstate going 10 mph under the speed limit. Hope they are coming this year, they are usually good for some things every year
I don’t normally see these in the Simi-wild, but they were on the a internet classified sale site. Four Japanese naturals and a King mud hone. King will go in the maybe box but look forward to playing with the J-Nats. Found one other J-Nat on CL, my first, but that was years ago
Today’s estate sale had the famous “every thing is a dollar” table set up. A Gem of a hone and a way to cool military can of neatsfoot oil found there way home with me. My vintage strops can have a drink of vintage oil. Love the can’t loose chain mounted screw top. The stone has seen a rough life but nothing a lapping won’t take care of
Thanks @David . I think the seller thought it was a paperweight which has happened before. Will be a few days before I lap. SWMBO decided in the post holiday cleanup that it’s time to paint inside the house. As long as it’s around my market schedule. Getting to old for this sh**
Finally was able to buy from a Canadian snow bird. They said they escaped after New Years and have been laying low for a few weeks. Was worth the wait, they had tribute for me. A Soft Ark/India combo, a 10 inch mystery stone, a 7 inch BBW that lost its Coti. The star of the pick is a boxed Escher from B.T. Co. (Bösenberg Trinks & Co.) and complete with both stones. A good day at the market
Now that the world is opening up, went on my first working vacation in almost two years. Some flea markets and yard sales yielded fruit of the rock. Most exciting was the estate sale of a watchmaker (watchmakers have the coolest tools) and scored some nice stones. Came home with a dandy assortment of hones from around the world. Several Washitas, Hard Ark, and Translucent finger stones. Four Coticules, one is a 1 1/4 thick 2.5 x 5. A boxed Pike Combo hone and green sleeved Frictonite, a well worn Thuringian, and assortment of caked mystery stones that need a visit to the dip. Middle right and lower right are the most interesting unknown stones. Middle is uber fine and very hard with saw marks. Very similar to my Porcelain White Novaculite but in a odd, non rectangular shape. The lower looks to be a Grecian. It’s a green-grey stone with a swirled surface And dark blue banding that looks like waves of swarf. Feels to be in the 8K-10K neighborhood
