Polishing with etching

I have a razor that has a little staining, and I was thinking of giving it a polishing (my first!). My question was, will this present any danger to etching on the blade.

Gotta say, the move from shaving with straights to working on your own blades is like getting off the bus at boot camp: a little exciting and a lot scary. Of course, the journey is well worth it. In both cases

Polish will wipe off any gold wash like you're rubbing off a fingerprint. It just takes it right away. Any physical etching will remain, but it will no longer have the gold wash that usually accompanies it.

Here's how it worked out for me (I didn't want the gold wash, so i quickly removed it!)

If you want to keep the gold, then I don't have any answers....

Good example. Etching should not be affected by polish. I use MAAS and a felt pad with a dremel. If it needs more then you're into sandpaper and the etching will disappear.
