Points to make in a presentation?

So I am doing a short introductory presentation on wetshaving in one of my classes and I am just trying to finalize what points I should stress. So far I know that I am touching base on less irritation/burn and cost. Any other ideas?

you might want to give some technique pointers that people who use cartridges can use.

Chances are youre not going to convince everyone, but if they improve their current technique a little then its a success. Things like good prep etc

The majority of people that use cartridges don't want to shave period, they probably would smear Nair on their faces if they could. :001_rolle

I have given up hope on the masses....

As said previously, most people that use cartridges don't want to shave anyway. But if I were you I'd point out some of the advantages of using a DE or straight because most teenagers have bad irritation and running a five-bladed razor 3 times over your face is 15 times more irritation than once with a DE... it's up to you what you say though :biggrin1: good luck!

Cost savings and coolness factor. With the vintage fad people seem to be on these days, you shouldn't have a hard time connecting those dots. :001_smile

  • Cost savings as long as they can fight the ADs. :001_smile
  • Less waste of materials.
  • Less skin problems (and if you do have them, you can usually tell what's causing it and change it).
  • A feeling of ritual.

Or just health. Modern shave creams have things like SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate) and that's known to be a skin irritant and some studies have shown it to be a carcinogen.

The one big thing to remember about presentations, if your using Powerpoint that is, that your audience will have about 15 minutes if not less attention span...... Powerpoint is shown to have a hugely soporific effect on peoples ability to process information...

Also remember to put the bare essentials on slides, and fill in your self, otherwise again people will be reading and not listening to you.

ATB,
Tom

+1

The coolness factor might get them interested. I know that's what attracted me into trying wet shaving. I don't know how old are your students, but shaving with a straight is especially very cool for young males on testosterone :001_smile

Yeah hopefully it's not a powerpoint presentation... I'm sure he has more than enough items to bring in and use as visual aids!

Here's a reference to an earlier posting that may be a summary of what you're looking for. This was in response to a new B&B'er looking for shaving tips. If you read the entire thread, you'll see a lot of the common points brought up by other B&B'ers offering tips and solutions.

Wanting for wisdom
Just general presentation stuff.
  • Tell them what you are going to tell them
  • Tell them
  • Tell them what you told them

OK, so you got less irritation and lower cost. Good start.

Remember that you're presenting to women and men. Don't ignore the women.

  • Closer shave
  • Recycling DE blades is very simple and the waste is minimal, compared with metal-and-plastic cartridges
  • Shave creams and soaps use no hydrocarbon propellants (usually propane), nor do they use metal cans.
  • Synthetic badger is available (for the PETA members in the audience, because there will be some), and there's plenty of shaving creams and soaps that are free of animal products too, though you don't need to mention it unless someone asks.
  • Straight razors have no waste at all
  • Throw in a picture of Cary Grant and/or Ginger Rogers too, for a little "old school" light humor
And let us know how it goes!

Solid advice. :thumbup1:

'Know your audience and what they want' would be the only other thing I'd add for general advice and you'll be ahead of almost all public speakers out there.

All good suggestions. Whittle down the points you'd like to cover. Remember, a 15min presentation you prepare and practice, will turn into 25 mins when you're in front of people, so it's best to prep less than more.

That's why it's important to decide on your main points.

And just convey your enthusiasm; don't try to sell / convert others, this can often lead to arguing numerous points to the level of audience boredom.

Thanks guys!:001_smile

So I have whittled it down to the following points

- costs less
- cool/vintage
- healthier skin
- variety
- zen/relaxing/fun/etc.

And to my dismay I am required to make a powerpoint but I'm just going to make it bare bones because I would rather have them looking at the razors/soaps/brushes that I will pass around. Now, how to make sure I get them all back:confused1:001_tt2:

Just curious...what razors are you bringing in for the presentation?? +1 on all the great points mentioned!
