What's new

Please S'plain....

I am sure at some point in the past this question has been answered...What is the purpose of the numbers 1,2,3,4 on razor blades? Could someone please end this mystery for me...thanks.

Actually those numbers are there to serve as conversation starters, ie: what are those numbers for?

Or maybe Chuck Norris just hasn't gotten around to roundhouse kicking them off yet.

50 years of wet shaving and I have never noticed those numbers. Guess I don't look at a razor blades that close. Sheese! And now I've got to read razor blades, too.

I had no idea what they are there for in the past. It is interesting to see the answers. How do you know they are there for manufacturing? What proof is there?

As a newby earlier this year, I too asked that seemingly intelligent question. I was also pelted with a small chorus of abusive sneering but over time have healed. The scars are gone but this thread is now an unwelcome flashback. Let's move on boys.

If you been harshly dealt with, then an apology is in order. It's a legitimate question of curiosity but in the grand scheme of things, it really doesn't impact the shave so it gets treated with somewhat unsympathetic responses.

Wow...up until asking this question, I honestly thought that part of the point to this forum was introducing noobs to the world of DE and Straight Razor shaving.

Guess its just for those ALREADY in the know. Remind me never to take a heathen to church. And to think I actually took a picture in preparation to ask it....

Chill out ..... the purpose of chat is to calm your fears and justify our own wisdom which comes after spending a few thousand on shaving stuff!!!!!!

Would it be right to compare them to the registration dots/shapes on all off set color printing? So that if there is a problem, you can narrow down where on the line the problem is?

I know why the numbers are there. And as a bonus, I'll tell you why those four annoying, seemingly useless glue dots are on all of the blades produced in the Russian factory where the Astras you have were made. It all goes back to the old Soviet command economy (which is obviously not completely defunct). In a command economy, everyone is being supported by the government, so everyone must work. A "normal rate of unemployment" is not part of the communist vocabulary. So, everyone's got to do something, even if it's just a make-work job. I'm guessing one, but more likely two, three, or four workers in that factory put the glue dots on the blades. Same thing goes for the numbers.

Q: "Why are we doing this, comrade?"

A: "Who cares. Get the hell back to work."

You might wonder why they're still doing it today, but I'm guessing it's just a holdover from the old way of doing things.

P.S. I obviously made all of this crap up. But when I asked myself the same questions, this is the best explanation I could come up with.
