What's new

Please help me with advice for my next DE razor purchase :)

I own these DE's:

1. Feather AS-1 DE - thought I had sold it, but he never picked it up. I'll be keeping it for a while, even though it ONLY works on my beard, when it's not longer than maximum 1 1/2 days growth
2. M;ühle R41 Grande - Very nice aggressive razor, will also keep it since none seemed interested in paying me what I thought was fair. Really like its aggressiveness - and shaving with it made me decide to buy the Feather Artist Club SS in the Non folding version
3. Mühle Sophist R106 Black Resin - marvellous lookng razor. It has the mild R89 head. Put a Feather blade in this and it gives me a very nice shave each and every time :w00t:
4. On its way to me is a Pils DE razor - should be here next week or so.....

So I consider adding one with an aggressiveness factor in between the mild Mühle Sophist R106 and the Mühle R41 Grande - but I also want an impressive looking DE razor, so what to get ?

I've considered the Edwin Jagger Chatsworth Barley DE razor, but have heard it has the same head as my Mühle Sophist R106, but it just looks so nice that I may just have to own the Chatsworth Barley anyway, am I crazy or just a suffering from a case of RAD
It looks sooo nice:

For some reason Merkur razors are just not for me - I've heard and read about quality issues, maybe I need to try a Merkur as my next DE razor, but I'd rather avoid them all together......

Ikon DE razors have also been on my list, but also read and heard about quality issues with this brand, so not sure I'll get them in my den either......

I really like Mühle razors - their design is top notch.
I have been very very close several times to get the Mühle Stylo DE razor in Thuja wood, because I love how it looks, but it has the same head I already own, so not sure - but it just looks so darn nice:

I'm very close to getting both the Mühle Stylo DE in Thuja wood and the Edwin Jagger Chatsworth Barley because these two razors are among the best looking DE razors I've ever seen and I think it would a joy to have them in my small but growing DE razor collection :w00t:

But what would you recommend me to look at ?

I have a bit ca$h to spend on DE gear this month :thumbup1:

Thanks for helping me with advice !

I would wait 3 days growth..the more hair the more natural oils your skin will aid in shaving..try something with an open comb (teeth)

I have Feather AS D-1, Muhle R41, EJ89L, Ej89 Octagon, Stylo Black African Wood "what a sweet looking Solid Set and Solid Stand" Your going to Love the Stylo )

Here is a link to My Muhle Stylo Black African wood Set, Check it out http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showth...End-Stylo-Kits-Cant-wait-to-get-it?highlight=

I did consider getting the Stylo in African Blckwood, but just saw they made it in Thuja wood, and even more expensive totally waterproof wood sort - and I like the color of the Thuja wood very much :)

In fact I'm getting this set - since I also planned on testing the new Mühle Silvertip fibre brush for face lathering only:

Thanks :001_smile

I also saw the discussion in the Brush forum about the new Mühle Silvertip fibre brushes and thought I would buy one just to try it out - and now see this good looking set with a 21 mm Silvertip Fibre brush, perfect for when I face lather and want to try some other brush than my Simpssons Duke 3 in 2-band Super........for face lathering.....
Stylo design brushes are not that great for bowl lathering since they have short handles - but they may be very fine for face lathering only, I hope - one thing is sure - THEY LOOK DARN GREAT :thumbup1:

Claus, that is unfortunate that you only buy new razors as the vintage Gillette open-comb Aristocrats are something you should consider as they are exactly what it seems like you are after. The 1934 and the #15 Aristocrats are amazing shavers and you are definitely missing out on these fantastic shavers. i have the R41 and some milder razors and these are great. If you only buy new razors, you could try the Tradere; open-comb and a beautifully made razor, but very heavy!
Good luck

You're lacking in OC's in a big way (R41 gets honorable mention on that point, however). Since you seem to be favoring high end, sexy razors, I think a Joris would be right up your alley. I've got the Fatip, which has a nearly identical head, and it shaves wonderfully. Close to the R41 in effectiveness, but doesn't make you work as hard. Others with the Joris say it's even better than the Fatip.

I'll second that recommendation for a Tradere. It's a very nice razor, and you're unlikely to find anything that beats it on the quality axis.
