PJ2 Replacement

A couple a years ago I bought a PJ2. Right from the start it lost some hairs. Knowing that most brushes lose some hairs when new, I did nothing about it. Due to transitioning out of the military, moving and a new job, the PJ2 was sporadically used as wet shaving took a back seat for a while. Now, wet shaving is back in favor but sadly, the PJ2 is not. Everytime I use it, it loses a dozen or more hairs. Since it has been so long since I purchased it, returning it is probably out of the question.

So, I'm looking for a new brush with PJ2 characteristics for no more than $100. Thinking a Rooney size 1. Any other suggestions?

Email Simpson/Vulfix about it. I've heard that there customer service is top notch and you may get an answer to this. I read on here that someone had a shedding problem after 2 years and Simpson reknotted their brush for them.

If the handle is in good condition why don't you just purchase a Golden Nib replacement knot in finest badger or one of his silvertips. I have replaced six knots in vintage brushes with TGN finest badger knots. I am very pleased with their performance. For around $25 you can have a great brush that will last the rest of your life and pass on to your family. I have a Simpson "Ehsan", a Edwin Jagger, a Truefitt and Hill 3/1 and a Rooney 3/1. While I like the upper end brushes, if I had to do it again I think I would concentrate with restoreing vintage brushes. I get more pleasure in saving the old brush handles and using them to shave with new knots installed.

Definitely email Simpsons about this, they could help you out.

If that doesn't work, then I recommend a Rooney 3-1

I agree with those gents recommending you contact Simpsons about this. That sort of shedding is representative of a bad egg.

However, if you're after a new brush, the Rooney Super Silvertips are quite nice (but be sure to buy it from a reputable vendor, as that will be your only avenue for service should you need it).

I've heard that there were some issues in the early days of the Vulfix ownership/transfer..contact their support...guys are top notch!!! Sorry to hear about your brush!

I agree with the others and contact Simpson about the problem. Now if you want to try other brushes or buy a backup brush I'd recommend a Shavemac.

I contacted progress-vulfix about my shedding Simpson pj2 best. They gave me info about sending it in, 2 weeks later my re-knotted pj2 was returned. All it cost was postage to send it in, the rest was on them. Give their excellent customer service an opportunity to get you enjoying your pj2 again. Regards, Bradley

Thanks for everyones input. I contacted Vulfix today and now waiting for a reply. If that does not work out, I may re-knot with a TGN. How would a TGN knot compare with a PJ2?

I am still eyeing a Rooney 3/1 though.

What about one of those "New Forest" brushes. They are getting great feedback. The specs look very similar to the PJ2.
