Pinaud Clubman Vanilla=Bug Spray?

Hello,
I am a huge fan of almost every scent of Pinaud Clubman (even Veg), however when I ordered the Vanilla based on reviews, I became a little disapointed. IMHO, this stuff smells identical to OFF Bug Spray on me! Does anyone else have the same thing happen to them with the Clubman Vanilla?

Must be a case of how it interacts with your skin's chemistry. For me, the Classic Vanilla is one of my favorite Pinaud scents. (Heresy, I know, but I'm not a fan of original Clubman at all!) As they say over at B&B, "YMDV": "Your Mileage Did Vary"!

In the bottle it can smell quite synthetic. On your skin and with dry down it mellows out to a great scent. My favorite Pinaud

My favorite Pinaud, too. I do not get the bug spray accords, but that does not meant you do not!

Based on posts I have read about this scent over the years, I think you can wear it and be fairly confident that most folks are not going to immediately think OFF insect repellent. Again, that does not mean that it does not smell that way to you!

Not sure what to chalk it up to, but I think there are many frags that will hit people with the "bug spray" vibe. My ex wife wore a scent that always smelled like Raid to me on her initial application. It's a well known, popular scent to this day, so obviously, the "bug spray" scent was more specific to me than the general public.

It just seems to happen that way sometimes.

I am going to continue using it! I cannot give up on any Clubmen product until I am 100% sure I do not like it. I hope it will grow on me!

McJAGGER I just got some Clubman Vanilla today and I totally get the bug spray thing! I will, however, try it again to see if it was a fluke. On my first application of Special Reserve I wondered what I had gotten myself into, but the second application was fantastic! I'm hoping for a similar experience with the Vanilla as well.

I LOVE Clubman Vanilla. For some reason it reminds me of my dad's British Sterling. Does anyone else get that?

I agree when first applied it can smell somewhat synthetic, but on me it quickly changes. I just got it about two weeks ago after finishing off the regular Clubman. I like it quite a bit and will wear it frequently.

I like it a lot. When I first got it I had some of the same impressions but the next time when just put it on without thinking about it or comparing it to something else I liked it a lot. I'm finding out that that advice applied to all Pinaud scents. I even like Lilac Veg now.

You have been chosen, eh?! :) Fellow Knight! Btw, I was in Seattle a few years ago and LOVED that city! It's very clean and I had by far the best sushi I've ever had in my life, in a little place right by the Fulton Fish Market. I would definitely go back again.

I think you mean the Pike Place Market. The Fulton Fish Market (according to Google) is in NY. :) In any event I've never heard that name used around here.

I won't go as far as to say I'm one of the chosen :) regarding the Veg. It won't be used as frequently as the others but if I just put it on and forget it for a few minutes then when I smell it it's not bad at all. Clubman and Clubman Vanilla are much more my style. The Bay Rum (clove smell) is really growing on me however!

I love Seattle as well (originally from N.C.). The only thing missing is a little more sunshine!

You mean I actually made a mistake?! That's the first time that's ever happened! ;) Hehe, well, you know, the place I was referring to is the place where they used to throw the fish. I understand they don't do that any longer?! But yes, a little more sun would be nice but it's SUCH a beautiful city! I was there on business (I'm a Sales Rep) and the local Seattle rep took me on a "working tour" of the area; I was able to see so much, including the area where they have 2 of the most famous Washington wineries (their names excape me right now) and a well known brewery just across the little country road! Nice people, too.

Did you get it in the atomizer?

HAHA! That atomizer looks like something Gorgeous George would have brought to the wrestling ring! So, I tried the Clubman Classic Vanilla again and go figure it was WONDERFUL the second time around! I tried it again the following day and it was again very nice. My wife loves it, too, which is of course VERY important. I get a buttery, cookies baking scent from it now. It will definitely stay in the rotation.

Also you might want to decant it into a glass bottle ... I've noticed it gets better afterward minus the plastic ... at least for me.

I just ordered some from WCS. I generally love the smell of vanilla and it's so inexpensive I figured why not. Just got a bunch of sample colognes with a vanilla theme though and not sure I really like any of them so it may have been a waste.

It's a good smell but it doesn't smell like Vanilla.
