PILS or Tradere Solid Bar?

Also, someone posted on another thread that the Pils is plated brass. I don't know if this is true, but I would want to find out for sure if I were considering a Pils (which I am not).

I saw that also. Upon further inspection of the link provided one model seems to be brass but sold out. The other models are 100 percent stainless steel with different finishes and in stock. So be sure to read the description before purchase. I agree the same price for brass and stainless, I will be sure to buy the stainless.

I think you will find that the Tradere will be considerably easier to sell (and you will lose less money) in the event you don't like it.

I own both. The Tradere Solid Bar is one of my favorite razors. The Pils has been a challenge. The build quality is very good, but it's radically head heavy and the handle is polished and very thin, so it's very slippery when wet. It might be simplest to say I like the head design and build, and nothing else. Its a two-piece so you can't change the handle to make the weight distribution more neutral, which means I'll keep it awhile and use it, and hope it grows on me. So far, that's not happening. The Tradere, on the other hand, was one of my favorite razors the first time I used it. The workmanship and build quality is better than the Pils, the weight distribution is near perfect to my mind, and the shave is really smooth. In mild/aggressive terms, I think they hit a sweet spot, as Pils did also, IMO. Pils may actually be more mild than the Tradere which feels more mild than it is, due to the smoothness, in the same way that Med Preps and 7 o'clock Blacks don't feel as sharp as they are because they're so smooth.

Thank you for pitching in!
I was debating which one to get. Ended up with the Tradere for many reasons. Mainly because I felt better on supporting a US maker. After a week of using it I am very happy with it. I learned a lot from using it because it demands proper technique. The resulting shaves are very smooth, close and even.

Glad to hear you're enjoying it. There are some people who also enjoy a razor that's head-heavy, and might enjoy the Pils more than I am, but the Tradere is probably going to be a more pleasing razor to more people, and the build quality is really exceptional. I also think the Tradere continues to be an excellent buy comparing both quality of construction and price point with its competition. Open comb and Solid bar are superb razors. Congratulations on your purchase.

i have tried both and while the Tradere OC and SB are very nice razors, i did not keep them as i could not get on with them.
They are beautifully made razors, but i have never seen anything equal to the craftsmanship of the Pils, in my opinion. It is just a beautifully crafted razor.
Enjoy the razors.

I'm curious celestino, what did you not like about the Tradere's?

I've tried the OC Tradere - didn't find it that pleasurable, though the handle is poetry in motion.

Wanting to purchase a SB Tradere, as I feel that it would provide what is missing in the OC.

I also own the PILS stainless, which is a craftsman's dream - it's just so well put together, though I concur with the difficulty in learning how to drive round the heavy head on the narrow gauge handle.
