Slant razors: Mild enough for daily shaving?

If I am comfortable with my Gillette Tech for daily use, which slant would likely suit me best?

Preferring milder razors, I am interested in branching out and adding a mild slant to my rotation.

If I am comfortable with my Gillette Tech for my daily shaves, which slant would likely suit me best?

If I am not quite comfortable with my Gillette NEW SC for daily use, which slants should I avoid?

I have heard that the Fatip Il Storto Gentile (closed comb) is a fairly mild slant razor. For those who know, how does it generally stack up against the mild Gillette Tech and the more aggressive NEW? How does it compare to mild razors like the Tech or Superspeed?

I’m providing concrete examples here as a reference point, since people have different perceptions of what is mild and aggressive. Looking for more objective, rather than purely subjective, answers.

All comments appreciated!

Second discussion on the role of blade rigidity:

My Tech is a pre-war. It has average rigidity with some blade flex. My NEW is an SC, with extreme blade rigidity and zero flex.

I get along better with the less rigid pre-war Tech. I am wondering if I may, or may not, get along well with slants due to their inherently rigid design.

I suppose I won’t know until I try, but does anyone have any thoughts?

The Razorock Superslant system is a pick-your-own-adventure slant with 12 possible levels of aggression.

And the blade rigidity is second to none.

I have the L1++ and it's perfect for my technique & beard needs. I tend to use sharp blades, fwiw.

If you decide to get a fatip slant don't get the SB. It is actually the rougher of the two. I have had both and while I liked neither the SB would bunch up the skin and pull. No fun. I haven't tried a super slant myself, but, would suggest that over a FOCS or FSBS.

I'd suggest the Fatip Open Comb Slant or the Razorock 'German 37' for a first slant. You can probably use them every day, but it's really down to your technique rather than the razor with these two. It would be good also to try several different blades. A helical slant gains some blade rigidity from the twist.

The current Merkur 37c is definitely mild, but offers solid rigidity thanks to the slantiness.

I am not typically a daily shaver due to skin fussiness, but I had no trouble using this razor for several days in succession and found I often reached for it during times when daily shaving was required. It's much easier going than the Razorock German 37, which clones the earlier, more aggressive 37c.

I'll sugest Yaqi SLOPE.

You seem to like it. Rob probably, too. I don't. Reason enough for me not to recommend it! :)

I can't say enough nice things about both the Yaqi Slant 37 and in my case, the SuperSlant L2++OC.... The Open Comb SuperSlant design works better for me than the solid safety bars... both the + and ++ models.... The step down safety bars didn't work as well for me... This is hard to explain, but for me, the L2++OC was more gentle to my skin than the L2 + or ++. The teeth on the OCs are well rounded and don't dig into my skin at all....

I still have my Merkur 37C... It's just a tad too mild for me. I get 8 hour shaves with it, but the Yaqi SS Slant 37 bumps up the efficiency enough so I get my customary 12 hour shaves...

I don't shave every day... so factor that in. <eg> evil grin.

For daily shaving I really like my Tech and Old clones. My FOCS requires more attention than I am willing to give when daily shaving but it is perfect for 36 to 48 hour shaving.

Also make sure to try a few tucks of mild blades in your testing…I stumbled along for 10 years or so before “discovering” mild blades, and that they were better for my skin.

I have both the FCCS and the Merkur 37C. The Merkur makes the FCCS feel more aggressive. I prefer the Merkur because like what others have said, it is a smooth and effective shaver, especially with Dorco blades. Once I got over the fact that it is a Zamac headed razor, I love it for what it is, a smooth shaver. The all-brass FCCS is a great value though for around USD 35.

I cannot honestly detect blade rigidity differences between razors, I can only gauge razors by their results and the feel during the process.

This is great, gentleman. Thank your for your comments!

Final inquiry: How is the Merkur 37 in comparison to an average Tech, in terms of aggressiveness and likeliness to bite/be harsh?
Also, I've noticed that you all seem not to like the FCCS (closed comb/straight bar) very much. Is it that much of a dud?

Personal notes:
I find that I can shave using the Tech with my eyes closed. With the NEW, as well as with my Schick G Type, I need to pay more attention. I am not able to use these every day, let alone for most shaves. For some reason, the NEW is harsh on the first pass of every shave, but feels milder on the final XTG and ATG passes; the initial WTG feels rough. The Schick G Type feels great everywhere except the upper lip--irritation galore! The Tech is excellent everywhere and makes for a 'it's so easy it's dumb' shave.

I would like to find a slant like the Tech, if such a thing exists.

Thanks!
