Pics of Frankenrazors?

Are you a purist...or do you mix heads and handles...and does it sometimes end up brilliantly...and sometimes...a Frankenrazor? :)

I'd love to see some interesting combinations :)

This is the mother of all Frankenrazors, the Ilmarinen.

It is made up of a Weber handle, a Feather head and all of the Ikon baseplates. All parts are replated in black chrome by onotoman (Dave at www.restoredrazors.com ).

It's my Holy Grail.

I use it as a system; first a fresh blade into the Feather head then the Ikon baseplates (OSS,OC and the SB). I give each combo about 3-4 shaves and get the benefit of a close shave even when the blade mellows. I particularly like the Weber handle, the balance is excellent and the length just like a vintage Gillette.

Here's one I put together with the help of an artist fabricator friend.

1918 Gillette Old Type + stainless steel rebar machined / welded / etc. into a razor handle.

I use my Feather Stainless (TOTAL PIECE OF JUNK RAZOR, DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY UNLESS YOU HAVE THE BEARD OF A 14 YEAR OLD AND ACNE) handle paired with an Edwin Jagger DE89. It turned an already great head into an even more enjoyable shaver.

Tell us how you really feel Wayne. :biggrin1:

Wow, is it less aggressive than the original R41? My skin can't handle aggressive razors...

Yes, slightly. The blade is bent down against the safety bar/comb instead of the R41 top cap which allows the blade to stick out straight (perpendicular to the handle)

Do you have some space in there for shims? I put an R89 head on my R41 base plate and am able to adjust the blade exposure with shims. I believe the weber head is very similar. Here's a thread I started with pics.
