Picked up a Micromatic OC

Picked this up at an antique store for a few bucks. Pretty good shape and shaves nicely with Gem SS blades (although it was my first shave with a SE, so what do I know...?)

So I know it's hard to date these things, but I think it's probably 30's era. I know people talk about "tapered handles" and "bullet tips" and "flying nuns" (er...) but could someone tell me which kind my razor is?

Thanks! I'm happy to finally have been initiated into the SE world...

MMOC is a very decent SE and paired with the GEM SS PTFE blades it is one that will spoil you.

Remember that the angle of SE is much shallower (5 degrees instead of 30 degrees for a DE razor). You need to almost put the blade cap against your face to get a proper shave from a SE razor.

Other than that, it's just another great razor

The open comb was the first Micromatic model, it came out around 1930. The second model is the Clog-pruf, which came out around 1941 and the last Micromatic to hit the market was the Flying Wing/Bullet Tip around 1947. What no one knows is when each model stopped production after the new one was released.

Not only was the one you have the first Micromatic, it was the razor that allowed ASR/Gem to beat Gillette to the twist to open (TTO) market.

I have enjoyed shaving with mine.

To HoosierTrooper, I believe I saw some old ads for the OCMM (might have been in some of the Sears Catalog scans) with the OCMM for sale as late as '49, but this is not 100% sure in my mind ..

Congrats on the MMOC pickup Josuastar.
This model was the 1st SE I picked up also.
You won't have any buyers remorse with this 1.
This is just a darn good razor.
