Phoenixkh: An Old Man's Continuum....

Hey Kim,
Just got an update from NOAA that Debby is now a Category 1 hurricane!
I see on the radar that Gainesville is within it's outer bands so it seems you might get some of the effects of the storm. As of now it seems that we've dodged it down here since all we got today was some occasional rain and moderate winds from the feeder bands.
Hoping it ends up being a non-issue there and that you all fare well during the storm my friend!

That's what I'd like to avoid though (the polishing!)
I like and don't mind polishing shiny stuff but would like something matte that would just stay as is without a polish and have a nice glide as well. I think I also have like 2 matte razors left and they don't glide like the shiny ones. I guess I'm just avoiding matte because of the ones I've sold (plus the ones I still have) that simply feel more draggy as opposed to shiny ones.
But the Timeless matte intrigues me enough to maybe eventually give it an opportunity.
I’m probably doing a poor job of describing the Timeless matte finish after a hand polish or two. The finish is still matte, but it’s very smooth and has a subtle luster to it, just not a bright shine.

I'll link the BST sale for it:

If you notice many of the Timeless matte finish razors that show up on various SOTD photos, etc., you'll see what looks like grain due to the camera lens, but the photos are actually true to the finish as supplied... Mine are smooth and shiny... just not a bright shine.

It does look like we'll get a bit of rain but not very high winds, as far as I can tell.... Apalachicola is going to get the brunt of the storm... though, last I checked, it was as you posted... a Cat 1... not too bad, all things being unequal.

Good luck to the both of you Kim and Larry @LRod. Hurricanes of any kind are none existing where I live, but I have been in Florida during a Cat 5 hurricane so I can somewhat relate. Weathered (no pun intended) through that one quite alright, but the news reports literally showed the other side of that storm.

Cheers,

Guido

So far, Debby has brought us some rain with modest winds..... We slept through the night well..... It's supposed to continue to rain for most of the day, but nothing extreme. We're inland, ~50 miles from the Gulf. We don't get many direct hits here: usually just glancing blows.

I feel bad for those along the coast in North and South Carolina.... They might get a stalled storm that brings almost 2' of rain....

Where I am in North Carolina we will not get too much. I am in Raleigh and right now we are projected to get 6-8 inches. My daughter though is in the Wilmington area and they are in the 12-16 inches range. @Jay21 how are you holding up?

Pretty good here too!
Tornado warnings since yesterday but fortunately none have panned out.
Rain on and off with mild to moderate wind gusts!
I'm feeling the pain for those up in the big bend of the state. The storm made landfall as a cat 1 in a small town called
Steinhatchee that only has about 1,000 residents. And it was also a direct hit for Perry Florida which got nailed
by hurricane Idalia last year. They're still recovering from that so it's got to be a pretty bad situation over there.

A colleague I was on the phone with today was heading down in Hilton Head for some rest and relaxation about 10 days ago and decided to turn around once the torrential rains started. He never actually got there after driving hundreds of miles from Ohio. When he got home after three days of driving, his neighborhood was a mess and there was no power in town. The lights went on yesterday after being out for about a week. Four EF1 tornadoes touched down in his neighborhood and trashed the electrical wires and a bunch of telephone poles. One of those twisters came within a few blocks of his house.

Gotta love a relaxing vacation.

I hope everyone has recovered from the various storms that have been ravaging the countryside lately....

I've sort of neglected my own thread lately. I did a double shave the other day (8/7/2024) with my Wolfman WR2 0.95 and Lambda Athena and two Timor SS blades. The blade did better in the Wolfman than the Athena.

My last shave was a recovery shave of sorts. I felt like I needed something easy and comforting so on 8/9/24 (Friday), I used my La Faulx SS Classic with a Ti Crown handle. That shave restored some needed "peaceful, easy feeling"s. I've been nursing a sore back for a while, but I plan to return to work tomorrow. I think I'll make it... I just did my light weight-lifting routine while lying prone on my 4' long, 6" diameter foam roll.

A little later this afternoon, I plan on restoring my comfort level with my Athena.... I was going to use a Perma-Sharp but I've noticed a lot of posts lately with the Nacet. I haven't used one in a while but remember them being very nice in the Athena. I'll try to remember to get a photo taken, as I did add a nice mat to the sink.

Over the past couple months, my purchases have slowed down to a crawl, I think.... I did add another polished Timeless Ti Crown handle as I found the SS Mellon razor head worthy of a Ti Crown.... I'll have enough money saved for the Lambda Ares I have on order when it's ready to ship.

Over this past couple of months, I've read about lots of new razors showing up on B&B. I've found it a bit strange they haven't awakened my RAD. I've read about people settling in to their razor collection but it's been a foreign feeling to me. In the words of Dylan (and many others, I'm sure)... Maybe I'm getting there:

Gotta try the Schick DE's that Aaron found Kim!
Also German (like the Timor's) but more excellent.
I have Timor's and they're good but these Schick's are something else!!
I think they've pretty much surpassed any of my favorite blades!
