Personna Med Prep blades

Well, the assessment that 7 to 8 shaves can be had with a Personna Med Prep blade before needing to chuck it, is pretty dead on. Tossed my first one today after the 7th shave.[/QUOT

I'm getting ready for shave 12 today with my blade... it still cuts effortlessly...

I may toss it after this shave, not out of necessity but just to move on to a different brand of blade in my stash.

If you can hit 7 shaves with one, see if you can go to 10. These blades have longevity even for a newer user.

Just my 2 cents!

IMHO you are comparing some of the very best options! For me the choice depends on the razor.

That's true. I have only used the med preps in my Fat Boy and could very well perform better and longer in one of my other razors. I'll have to try them out in one of my Aristocrats or Techs that I usually have great results with blade longevity and fantastic shaves.

Med preps are a good blade but for the premium I won't buy them. They shave the same as the Lab/Blue comfort coats to me.

I'm kinda hooked on GSB's these days though - on my face they stomp on all contenders for comfort whilst being a great performer in the bargain.

Med Preps are my number 1 blade. I for one can tell a difference between them and the Labs. I just used both last month. I pushed the Lab to 7 shaves and the last two or three were not very comfortable. The Med Prep went 12 shaves before I tossed it more or less to move to another blade, 12 great shaves.
I believe there is a post which shows each blade under magnification and they don't even compare. They are different blades!

+1. Great blades but obnoxious pricing. The law of diminishing returns definitely applies here when so many great blades can be had at half the price, like GSB, or even Polsilver at 60% the cost of the med preps.

Very true. And at half the price, you can get twice as many blades.

I just gave in and got 120 Gillette Sword's. At $28 shipped that's pretty decent I reckon, especially at our current dollar value. That said, if anything other than store branded Personna's ever pops up anywhere, I'll be buying them too.

Why do you say obnoxious pricing? Feather blades sell anywhere online from $27.50 to $40 for 100 blades while I can get 100 Med Prep blades at Robbins for $25.00. The last time I bought GSBs I paid $32 for them.

Although I like the Personna Med Prep blades, IMHO the best bang for the buck are the Lord blades which you can buy for about $10 for 100.

Personna Med Preps have become #1 in my arsenal. Absolutely awesome along with getting 4-5 3 pass shaves without pushing it. Pricepoint, they're reasonable. Depends on where you get them. I've seen a lot of other brands that are higher or equal, but the quality of these blades make them a "Stand alone" for me. I've shopped these blades and I can tell folks I've made out on them. Also, if they work for the individual, that's all that matters. Happy shaving with these!

Last time I checked GSB were $16-$18 and the med preps $33-$35 on ebay.

Only 6 shaves via Merkur 39C..

Mergress XL at number 5.5+ gets 6-10 before I chuck them, but it'll easy get much more. I'm sure I can get 20+ 3-pass shaves if I weren't shooting for BBS shaves every time.

It seems there is major variation in price, but even at the lowest price for each, med preps are still about 50% more than GSB.

Personally I'd rather order from some sort of 'Store' online than E-Bay. I know there's some reliable people out there, but it's the same reason I don't go to casino's and buy scratch cards. Leaving home everyday is enough gamble for me. :tongue_sm

Well whether Personna Med Prep and Gillette Silver Blue or any other well preforming DE blade is $16 or $36 for a hundred blades, the important thing to remember is that they are still a lot cheaper that 12 of the leading cartridge blades and IMHO, provide more bang for your buck regardless of the flavor of DE blade you prefer.

That's why I do business with Robbins. They are a medical supply company and I know all of their products are legitimate.

What impressed me about Robbins was that I called and emailed them and actually got an answer! Some time ago, I asked them if there was any truth to the rumor that the Med Prep blades were being phased out and not being used in the medical profession. George, one of the owners of Robbins, assured me that he still sells a substantial number of blades to the medical profession. He laughed and said that that must have been the reason why he had received a number of orders for the 100 blade package ordered by what appeared to be individuals rather than doctor's offices. Also, Robbins is one of the few medical supply companies that will sell to individuals not in the medical field.

He also told me that then the Personna Medical Division of Energizer only sold to medical supply companies or jobbers in that industry. I looked through their online catalog and was amazed to see the number of medical devices including blades, scalpels, and other devices they sell.
