Penhaligon's Opus 1870 - thumbs down by SWMBO

Received a bunch of cologne samples over the weekend and started the week off with Opus 1870. It went on nice and she liked the opening notes. Later, as we drove into work together, she said it only smelled okay at that point and that it had too much sandalwood in the base notes.

I liked it initially as well, but the as the opening wore off it reminded me more and more of Polo - a scent that I associate with some really bad times in my life. So now I'm stuck with it for the rest of the day... :frown:

I don't like it at all. I've said it on here before, but to me it smells like a wino's breath. I should've PIF'd my sample but I deep-six'ed it instead.

What I always think of when I smell Opus is a cedar chest. Its OK, but my least favorite of Penhaligon's scents.

I think it is great that we all smell the scents so differently!!
Opus is right now way up on my list, and I wear it a lot lately. It is my favorite Pen's scent and SWMBO likes it alike. I tried BB first, but my wife asked me if I am sick and took some kind of lemon containing cough drops - it actually had some kind of "mediciny" scent on me that I absolutely did not like. The first few minutes were quite nice, but then it developed into something I did not like at all. Another one of the Pen's scents I may get is the HB, this one is equally liked by her and myself, too. Our skins chemistry plays a huge role on how we and others smell scents on us.

Glad you like the Opus Rudy...Diptyque's Tam Dao is now my favorite cologne. Who knows what will happen after christmas
Hammam Works very well with my chemistry also.
