Penhaligon's English Fern

I recently purchased a puck of Penhaligon's English Fern on BST and it arrived last night. The scent is amazing and the lather was decent. I think I'm going to have to work on soap/water ratios to really dial in to that sweet spot. Regardless, I used it this morning and got a DFS with no irritation and a scent that is out of this world. This may be my new favorite scent. I shaved three hours ago and I still catch whiffs of the smell and it's still intoxicating.

All that said, the puck came stamped "Penhaligon's" on the top. This is not the stamp that's currently on Penhaligon's English Fern soap. Even more odd, the stamp was crossed out or struck through. Any idea why the puck looks like that? Thanks for the help!

I have a puck of Blenheim Bouquet and English Fern and they both have the "Penhaligon's" stamp on top, but the stamp is definitely not crossed through on either. That's odd that it is on yours.

Some people say that the reformulated soap doesn't lather at all. If not, I wonder what I did wrong last night, because I got a very nice lather when I used the Blenheim Bouquet soap. Both are current formulation - without tallow.

Regarding the scent, of the two, I very much prefer the English Fern.

I never had a problem with the EF, although the older tallow version is much better than the new reformulated one - but, the reform is not bad at all. The BB, however, I had one that was surely crap and could not be lathered - some say that some of the initial lots were not good at all - and I agree with the one I had.

i have a couple pucks that look like that. likely one of the pucks came from an unauthorized seller. that said the EF version i have work really well and smell great if you enjoy the scent.

Penhaligon's English Fern has been my biggest disappointment in a shaving soap. For the price they charge, I would expect better. YMMV, but they made their first and only sale to me.

I had guessed that perhaps the puck came from an unauthorized seller. That's somewhat disappointing. Disappointment in the seller aside, the stuff still smells unbelievable, and I think I can fix my lather problems. If I get a good lather out of it in the next day or two, I'll post some pictures. I should probably post a picture or two of the stamp on the top before I lather it into oblivion...

I bought a BB like that. It was sold on ebay as "end of line" production. The Penhaligons name was crossed out as it was not being sold retail. By the way, I can't compare it to the tallow version (I'm assuming the ones I have are not tallow), but it lathers just fine. Don't know how many "reformulations" they've gone through. But the one I have works well. It may not be the best lather of any soap I've ever used, but it's good, and the scent is remarkable.

The English Fern soap is definitely the better of the two Pen's soaps. Not the creamiest lather around as has been said on many occasions, but it is useable and quite slick and protective.

there's a penhaligon's fragrance sampler pack on amazon that includes english fern, and it's also incredible as a fragrance. great staying power, mellows out quickly once applied to skin. has some sharp/sour notes when applied which dissipate quickly and leave a beautiful green manly scent behind.
