Paypal question?

Not sure if this is the right place, but I have a paypal question.

I'm a newb but just trying to understand staying safe on paypal. If someone asks for my paypal email when I am buying from them, then they make a payment request to me, is this out of the ordinary? Why would they ask for this? I've never come across this before. Does this have something to do with giving a receipt?

I'm lost on this one.

If you don't feel comfortable just ask the seller for his paypal information and send him the money. Shouldn't matter to him/her since he will get paid either way.

It's done that way sometimes, not out of the ordinary.

I've purchased two razors from other members, and both transactions went without a hitch. In both cases, the seller sent me his email address, and I made a PayPal payment to that, marking it as a payment for goods. Have you noticed this thread cautioning against making personal payments?

I think it is down to what the guy is used to and it doesn't matter from a safety perspective--he'll have your info and you'll have his regardless.

If someone has a Paypal account, they simply send money from their Paypal account to my Paypal address.

Paypal [his] to Paypal [mine.]

But, there is another way to receive payments if the buyer doesn't have a Paypal account. And, that is...

Credit/Debit [his] to Paypal [mine.]

As the seller, I sign onto Paypal and send a bill to the buyer. The buyer pays with his debit or credit card, and the funds are placed in my Paypal account.

Very nice feature that Paypal offers now.

Be warned though! Even though it might appear so, you do NOT have to have a Paypal account to pay this way.

In your case, I suspect there was miscommunication between the buyer and you. I doubt anything untoward was meant or occurred.

It is quite normal. I guess it allows the seller to easily tell you exactly how much you need to pay. If you are worried about the seller having your email address, dont be. When you send money the seller will have your email address regardless
