PayPal no longer allowing credit cards?!??

Hey all, it's me again. I gotta quick question:

A pal of mine purchased a few razors a week ago, and used his credit card no problem. BUT then, today he tried to buy something else with his credit card, and PayPal told him that he NEEDED to be verified. So, my question is, did PayPal just decide that credit cards are no longer kosher? What's the dealio?

I think there's just a limit for number or dollar value of transactions you can make as an "unverified" member. After you go through the verification, I think this limit goes away.

That's the thing, he hasn't even come close to the limit. And it wont let him do anything without verifying his account....this sucks.

Hmmm... this "friend" of yours, he didn't "lend" you his card to make a couple of "small" purchases while you wait to pay him back until you get paid next?:skep:

:lol: Sorry, I couldn't resist. The CC hasn't expired has it. Sometimes the simplest things get overlooked.

I went through this last year. Made a number of CC purchases without issue, then suddenly no deal. It wouldn't let me use my CC no matter what I did. I wrote to customer service, got totally inadequate answers (read: they did not answer any of my questions). I called and spoke to someone on the phone. After several tries with different service reps, one finally admitted to me that PayPal uses a computer algorithm to prevent fraud. Sometimes it just flags you as a risk and your done. They'll do absolutely nothing to remedy the situation. It is automatic. It is totally random and the only way to remedy is to verify your account. I was very resistant to this, but did it anyway. Now, I have the choice of using either and the verification was pretty painless.

I think that's right. Happened to me a while back and I was really confused. Called their help and was told once through the verification it wouldn't happen again. It only takes a minute or so.

I use PP with a credit card more that I would like to admit and have never had an amount of use problem. I do recall that I had to reverify my info after updating an expiration date and last name change.

Hey Wendy........

just saying !!!!!!!!!!!!

I had to re-verify at some point. Wasn't a big deal. Verified my e-mail and shipping addresses as well.
I for one, can't stand when clerks and cashiers DON'T ask for ID with CC purchases. This simple act could prevent a lot of fraud. The ones who complain about it are also the first ones who want to know how someone else was able to use THEIR card when it happens to them.

It's really not hard to verify, plus it will make things run smoother in the future. It literally only took a few clicks and an e-mail as far as I remember.

You've never had your credit card number stolen online?

I have and it sucks. Luckily, mine was a small (knock on wood) theft but I've met a lot of people who really got the shaft. If it hasn't happened to you, be thankful. Very thankful. You may not loose too much money, but be prepared to acquire a second "job" trying to clear up your credit.

Yah, you pretty much have to get verified on Paypal after a certain spending limit. Think of it as a "Free Trial Period"

yea, but the verification is usualy a small (a buck or two) charge on the card with a code that you feed in to the system once you recive your credit/debit card extract, since i have instant online extract, it took a few minites,

the thing is TRUST NOTHING that comes by email about banks, ebay, paypal or any other financial institution, DO NOT use links found in emails, type it manualy in your browser, links can be modified to say one thing and lead somewhere else, and fishers also tend to register domains with very similar names to financial institutions and payment services,

also remember to give a A/V and spyware scans to your computer on a weekly basis,

AVG, Avira and Avast provide free decent antivirus software
and Spybot search and destroy, or Adaware provide decent Spyware/malware detection,
