Paint

I just recently bought a house in July (taking advantage of the 1st time home buyer credit). Plan on painting two bedrooms and bathroom. Just wondering if anyone has any favorite paint brands or colors...or any advice. Haha first time ever painting. :001_smile

I already decided on a color for the bathroom and bought a gallon of Benjamin Moore.

Thanks
~Brian

Ben Moore is good. Really, most any paint out there is good these days. I just get mine from Home depot or lowes. It has been a while since I last painted. I think I used the one with the bear on it it is spelled behr.

If you have children, and even if you don't, you may want to consider low VOC paint. It's a little more expensive, but the fumes have been greatly reduced.

I've used Behr from Home Depot and Valspar from Lowes with great results.

I use enamel paint in the bathroom. We have a huge issue with humidity in ours, even with a dehumidifier going, so the enamel paint helps a lot.

Prep in painting is just as important as in shaving.
Good brushes and rollers, drop clothes, Spackle compound, latex caulk and gun are all some things you will need. If the surface is dirty or in bad repair you may need to wash it first or prime with a sealing primer.
If you are going over a very dark color you may need to prime.
I calculate that for the most part its 2 x's the prep to painting time. One newbie mistake in painting is going over the area multiple times with a roller. Just put the paint on, roll out the marks and move on.

Good luck.

I recently talked to a contractor who does a lot of painting in his job. He told me he prefers benjamin moore, sherwin williams, and behr.

The other thing to consider if you need a relatively small quantity for a bathroom, closet, accent, etc. and aren't super-picky about color is that paint stores will sell paint whose color didn't match the chip perfectly for real cheap. You can see the color on the can, so if it fits what you want you can buy it and save some big $.

I prefer Behr. I've used Sherwin Williams in the past, but didn't like how it rolled. I painted a barn w/ MAB over the summer and it worked well.

I gotta second the Behr. The cost per gallon is very good, and it covers in one coat. I've used it for painting inside, and I use Behr stain for the outside of my house. I think you can't go wrong with the stuff. :w00t:

I couldn't agree more. I would also like to add, as with shaving, I always do at least two coats (passes).
