Osage vs. the Penguin. And the winner is...

Ordered my first bottles of both Osage Rub and Alcolado Glacial, looking for a menthol blast on summer mornings.
And Alcolado Glacial (The Penguin) is the winner, hands down!!!

• AG has a great mentholated lime scent, while OR has a slightly medicinal smell.
• AG burns at least as strongly as OR. (Yay for the burn!)
• AG freezes my face better than OR.

Both OR and AG leave my face feeling great: dry and soft. Moisturizing isn't a consideration during the warm season.
Neither scent lingers long, making it okay to apply cologne if desired.
Both are inexpensive: under $7 each for a 16 oz (500 ml) of AG and and a 14 oz bottle of OR.

The only advantage for OR is the pin-hole dispenser in the top of the bottle. It works great! The AG has a too-big hole that pours sloppily.

Don't be mad, OR lovers. It is good stuff, just not quite as good as AG. Both have made my bottle of green Mennen AS obsolete.
Long live The Penguin!!!

Both are great when it is hot - like lately. I find them a toss-up, with a nod towards the Alcolado on scent (slightly), but I feel that the Osage is slightly better as a face freezer (and attendant burn). I just looked at the labels though, and the AG had menthol as the second ingredient to it being third on the Osage Rub. These two, along with Florida Water, are my primaries when it gets this beastly outside. The West Indian Shop shows 6 x 8 oz bottles for $17.10 - can't recall if that's where I got mine a couple years ago but sounds about right.

Man, I wasn’t aware of any aftershave on Planet Earth that froze the face more than Osage Rub. Nor that there was anyone that WANTED anything stronger. Once you get above Osage Rub in freeze strength you start entering frostbite territory.

For anyone interested in Osage Rub, you can get it from West Coast Shaving.

If I may ask, where did you get the Alcolado Glacial from?

West Indian Shop. Sorry I don't have a link. I'm sure you can Google it. Amazon is always worth a try. I couldn't find it in stock at any of our B&B vendors, where I prefer to buy.

I picked up the six pack of AG from the West Indian Shop last month. It does not seem to have the same menthol kick as OSAGE RUB, but nice . I added a few menthol crystals to a bottle as as experiment, and notice how good my hands smelled after plucking a few large leaves of fresh grown sage for cooking, so added a couple of the sage leaves to the bottle. The scent is getting better.

Another facial BBQ out there which seems to be off the grid is Veleiro from Portugal. A handful of this stuff will snap your elastic.
