Ordered: Edwin Jagger DE89

After much reading and deliberation I have taken the plunge and ordered a DE89 from The English Shaving Company, other than the wait on overseas transit I am happy with the purchase.
I also ordered a Edwin Jagger best badger in faux horn since they are the only ones who listed it.

I will post a review when I receive the razor.

I also have a DE "choice" sampler pack on its way from WCS.

Looking forward to no longer using the Braun.

The lined version has vertical lines cut into the handle. Some prefer that over the smooth version because the lines give you a better grip when the razor is wet and/or has lather on it.

If I recall, the old head was a modified Merkur head. The new one is a new design of EJ/Mühle, unique to their razors.

I have a DE89L and absolutely love it. My other razors are terrific, but the DE89L is a joy to use and finds its way into my hand much more often than the others.

I've had an EJ89L for several months and bought a 34C as my intro-to-DE razor.
So maybe I can chime in.
IMO - in terms of agressiveness about the same, with the Merkur slightly more so.
In weight and balance the EJ is more top heavy and weighs less overall. The handle is not as beefy as the 34C. Not a bad thing (think fatboy vs. slim).
Fit and finish? EJ winner hands down. beautiful chrome and attention to detail.
Shave? <sigh> love 'em both.
My 89 w/a feather is the smoothest closest shave I've ever had.
That being said... the 34C and a derby is like an old friend. Comfortable, easy to be around, and a superb shave.

I have only been DE shaving for 6 weeks. So, I do not want to present myself as an expert on razors. Saying that, I think that the balance of the EJ is superior to the HD. Moreover, I have found the EJ to be a much smoother razor than the HD (especially when I go ATG on my 3rd pass).

As always, razors are a matter of personal preference. I hope that you find the razor(s) that work for you.

I have had mine for a few weeks. I love it and haven't used by MerKur HD or long handle HD since then. Feathers and Iridiums have worked great in it. I'm going to try my first Kai in it tomorrow. Let us know what you think about it.
