Ordered a Merkur 39c Slant.Questions.

I know that everyone says to use the slant just like you would any other DR razor; light touch, no pressure, etc. I do a lot of blade buffing, j-hooking around my jawline and neck area, and almost use the DE is a way that the blade works at an angle sort of like a slant. Is it possible to perform these techniques with a slant as well?

Great choice of razor! I love mine :) my only beef with it is the handle can get slippy but YMMV :) Let us know how it goes!

My 39c is my daily shaver. As long as you don't get cocky, you'll love the razor. If you do happen to do something stupid with it, though, you'll immediately know.

+2. As with any other razor, get acquainted first before you get adventurous!

While this is true. I didn't find my 39C any more dangerous than any of the other razors I own. In fact, I have found it to be less likely to give me weepers or nicks and cuts. Is it because I am being more careful? I don't think so. I shave exactly the same way and somehow it just seems very easy to use and yet very smooth and efficient. My favorite for sure.

The slant will offer an exceptionally efficient shave. As the guys have mentioned, you may not find a need for J-Hooking or buffing afterwards. You may, however, need to find a support group to help you stop touching your face due to how smooth it will feel. I recommend your wife or girlfriend....or cat...or dog....or whoever.

you probably won't need the advanced techniques due to the great result you will get from a well prepped three pass shave. j-hooking and such are ways to improve a not-so-great razor/shave. I rarely have any need to buff a part of my face that I've shaved with a slant (of course if I've missed a bit such as high on the cheek or near the ear/sideburn area that is a different story).

Good choice!! I have a 37G and I always get the best shave from it. If I could only keep one of my DE's, it would be the slant.

The 39C is a great shaver, but with the techniques you prefer, you might like the maneuverability and lighter-weight of the 37C a little better. I have both and find myself reaching for the 37C more often, especially for the way it handles my chin and neck.
