Opus 1870 inquiry

Ok guys, I had to have a sample of this and I got one. Now, (screaming at the top of my lungs) WHY IS IT SO DAMN EXPENSIVE FOR 100ML!!!! Seriously, I've paid nearly that for other scents, but who can lead me to the procurement of said EdT for the most economic cost? Looking for 100ml most likely.

My answer, in the style of the thread, is that it is A QUALITY FRAGRANCE from a respected, but relatively small fragrance house.

I've never found their 100ml for under $100. You could search on auction sites to find an opened or partially used bottle, but I'm not sure you'll do much better than that.

Most vendors seem to be consistent on the $110 or so price range for Penhaligon's scents. I suggest Vintageblades. Jim offers free shipping over $100. Throw a note in the order section, and he will probably send you a sample or two of other stuff. Plus, if there are any problems, his customer service is excellent.

You can find it from time to time also on ebay, just the other day a bottle sold for 40 brit. pounds.
BTW, the Opus is my favorite Pen's.

I've seen it on the bay. I guess I'm just so skeptical of that exchange medium anymore that I don't give it much credit. The Opus I saw was from a UK seller and my recourse overseas would be weakened should it turn out to be a less than optimal transaction. Oh well, I guess $100-110 it must be, and Jim is certainly a worthy merchant. I'll let SWMBO make the final decision on this one. Thanks guys.

If you really want Opus, I would keep your eyes peeled on the BST and be patient...which is the key factor.

If you can do this...good things will come your way I assure you and you'll find Opus for less than what you can find elsewhere online.

It's a high end scent, and the Penhaligons get a lot of love in here for good reason. They are worth it.

Over in Basenotes, I read horror stories about people trying to bargain hunt high end frags on eBay.

Some make out okay; but a lot get burned. If you found a listing from a long time forum member in here selling a half bottle or something, it would probably be fine.

But if you really like it, go for it- treat yourself to a little luxury as long as no one's going to go hungry. There's "can't afford" and "I don't want to spend that much on cologne!" You know which is true for you.

Count your blessings that you didn't sample and fall in love with Clive Christian's Number One.

Personally I we be willing to trust those highly rated Brit sellers on ebay. I would say you ought to be able to get it for about $78 delivered to U S

Penhaligon's 100ml bottles can easily be found for £25 or less here in UK.

BUT these are un-boxed and don't have the fancy ribbons.

Still genuine Penhaligon's though.

The sad thing is that Penhaligon's are really kind of middle of the range in price. There are FAR more expensive scents out there. Of course, price doesn't equate with quality, so a careful shopper can do well....for less.

I wonder what that's all about...I found a place in US selling Knize 10 the same way- no box and no cap?

I do entrust that it's legit Knize 10, but it puzzles me.

He's referring to Penhaligons "outlet" stores.

I don't really know how it works either but they have a 2 for £50 deal on most colognes (OEM), OPUS 1870 was £35 with box. Not sure if they deliver to US but you can always ask.

Its expensive but if your gonna get it, Get it soon. Its definitely a Winter/Fall scent.

I guess I'm one who disagrees here...I definitely think its "heavier" and if that is the definition of a Winter/Fall scent then I guess that makes sense....

But I think this stuff can be worn year-round.

I'll tell you a story... When I was 21 I was given a bottle of "Givenchy Gentleman" for my birthday. I used it sparingly for quite a few years and finally finished it when I was 35! I looked at the empty bottle and wondered why I hadn't worn more of it more often and decided at that point that as long as I am able I will buy whatever cologne I wish and use as much of it as I like! Even with the economy as it is I have purchased so many bottles of my favorites over the years (including quite a few Penhaligon's colognes bought both here and abroad) that I will probably never has to worry about going without! It's only money, go out and buy what you like and enjoy it! That's my motto!

PS - Penhaligon's does have sales! I bought two small bottle of cologne for half the price a few months ago!
