Opinion on a Razor

First I'm a newbie although I've been a lurker for a month or so. Last week, I received my first Whipped Dog straight. I've been a DE shaver for a little while but am loving the straight. I've only got 4 shaves in but am doing pretty well and haven't cut anything important off yet. I just have to say, I've been on a lot of forums over the years for various topics and all the members on here are great!

Anyhow, on to my question. I found this razor at an antique store last week. It's a H. Eicker & Sohne Heartring 150. I believe it's a 4/8. The blade appears to be in fairly good shape except for maybe the toe (it seems to have more hone wear on the toe). I checked it pretty well with a loupe and there is no heavy rust, pitting, cracks or chips. The scales are free from cracks although the pivot pin is pretty loose. It came in a box from "The Crown and Sword Razor Shop" Soligen. I figured for 8 bucks, I'm not out much if it's junk. It will shave arm hair although poorly. Just wanted thoughts.

Thanks all,

For $8 it is a nice razor, like you said it has seen some use, likely has another few years left.

Get her honed up and enjoy

Get some metal polish and get the tarnish off the blade, then it looks like a good razor to learn to hone on.

You can tighten the pivot by putting one side on a solid surface, and then tapping the other side with a soup spoon lightly a dozen times or so.
