One for STAR gazers

Made a trek to the suburbs today to pick up this wedge blade Star razor and case - an hour of stoning and the blade is ready - has to have about the most intimidating appearance of any shaving implement!

Awesome!!

By the way, some of these were capable of also holding a standard SE blade. Might be something you want to look into. :thumbup1:

It does have the stops on each corner but I don't like how a SE blade sits in there - seems to move up too easily - back in the day, were SE blades thicker, like the the 3 hole DE Gillettes?

Also, the lower handle section has a neatly rounded end that is hidden inside - Does this section attach to some accessory where the round end would be exposed?(like a stropping holder or sleeve to use the blade like a str8)

Very nice catch!!!

The handle holds a simple blade holder for stropping the razor against a standard leather strop.

You should show it off at the single edge razor site posted in my sig link. Pictures would be great. You will certainly get ooo's and ahhhh's there! As well as more info on your razor.

Awesome find! I find it interesting that The case says "Gem" and "Star" on it.

Got mine in a private deal...There are a few on Ebay now but there are several days of bidding left - who knows how high the $$$ will go...

Saw a Star razor auction end on Ebay moments ago for a whopping $409.40!!
It is older than mine, but didn't even include a blade!

Got a second Star of similar appearance that holds a SE blade - first shave was gentle - the gaping maul (maw?) acts like an ice cream scoop for lather and the light weight kept painful surprises away - with case, got it for about 1/8 the price of that mega auction today.....

The pictured razor, though having stops for a SE blade, doesn't hold it securely - the wedge blade included needs final stropping but my results with a blade I worked on for a Rolls Razor were less than stellar - so will see later on.

I have one of these Star lather catchers as well. At first I didn't think it held a regular SE blade in place well enough but I shaved with it anyway and kept manually pushing the blade back down into place.

Last night I finally figured out that if you push the little lever inside the head up after the blade is in place it holds the blade perfectly snug against the guard bar. :thumbup1:

I feel like I'm probably not describing this properly but I will post some photos tonight.
