Old Spice

I posted about this a while back and have had some questions answered here at B and B.

I am making a kit for my father in law. He used to wear Old Spice before they change the formula. He stopped because he didn't like it. He also told me a while back he preferred using a DE but when the blades became hard to find he switched to cartridges.

So I am making a kit with an Old Spice mug, a good brush and some quality soap.

So my questions is, if I buy a vintage bottle of Old Spice what is a fair price to pay? I only ask because the only place I really can find it is on eBay and, well, some stuff can go for ridiculous prices.

Also for myself I am curious about Old Spice Lime, what should I expect to pay for that?

Thanks.

I've never payed more than 10.00 for a basic 4 and a quarter ounce bottle of Shulton. The trick is to wait for the right deal, because it comes and goes in spurts in regards to Old Spice.

The Lime, you can expect to pay a little more for. If you haven't already read it, check out this thread if you have never purchased vintage Lime. http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=79160&highlight=Caveat+Emptor

Thanks for the link to the thread. Lots of useful information.

On a side note, I never cared for Old Spice but now that I've started this search I really like it. So does my wife. I just hope it's not because it reminds her of her father.

I paid $7 for an empty Shulton bottle and then filled it with the Family Dollar OS knock-off.

agreed. you can probably just find an empty bottle and fill it with some generic version of old spice. heck you can even give him and assortment of bay rum scented aftershaves.

Guilty as charged!!!

Hate to admit it, but I have done this also. I just enjoy having that old clipper ship bottle on my sink in the morning. The Family Dollar O/S is probably as close as we'll get to the original O/S again so decant away fellers.

Thank you Clubman for the link and info. It is info that I would have never have known being a noob. Thanks for watching out for us.

I have found MANY bottles of Old Spice that were full at antique stores. Prices range from $4-$10, however E-Bay is a whole nother story. I have only scored one Old Spice shave soap in all my antique store exploits, for $4.50, and worth every penny!!!

I loved my bottle of Lime Old Spice in the 80's, but I sure wish I had stocked up on that. I have not seen a bottle go for less than $50 (partially full) and more often for a lot more than that!! Standard old stock Old Spice should be cheaper, though.

There is a certain website that I cannot mention here (why??) but they claim to have the old old spice and say it is still being made in India. Its only 12.50 a bottle.

You can find it much, much cheaper than that. Just keep an eye out and remember, it pays to wait.

It's not real Old Spice. It's the Indian version, and it's closer to the original Old Spice than the current proctor and gamble version, but it's just a product that is made by a company that licensed the Shulton name.

That's what I plan on doing. I already have the "knock off"(As I understand t, it's the original recipe, purchased by another company when the formula changed) in glass but I want the ceramic Shulton Bottle from the 50's.
