Old Name Aftershaves

You see plenty of comments these days about some old names still around; Aqua Velva, Brut, and CERTAINLY Old Spice.

Hai Karate went by the wayside years ago (maybe thankfully so). Are there any others from years gone by that are gone but not forgotten by some?

I have a few early 60s aftershaves and colognes:
Mennen's Skin Bracer (vintage in dimpled glass bottle—what my Dad used),
Aqua Velva (glass bottle—my own first aftershave),
Brut (original Fabrege formula in glass bottle with chain & medallion),
British Sterling (original Speidel glass and metal flasks)
Old Spice (Shulton glass bottles + several collectible decanters),
Old Spice Lime (Shulton glass bottle),
English Leather (glass bottles with wood tops and soaps on a rope from Mem),
Jade East (original cylindrical glass bottle from Swank)

I just picked up a vintage bottle of Speidel's Bravura on eBay. Haven't smelled it since high school--in fact, I even forgot what it was called until I saw the bottle pictured in the listing. I'll report back on its performance.

I just picked up a bottle of Seaforth Heather Aftershave this past weekend. Nicely shaped glass bottle, and still had about 10-20% remaining in the bottle. To my nose, the scent is a little like old spice, but not as spicy, and with a bit more musk.

They at one point also made shaving mugs with soap, just like Old Spice as well.

There's a few I remember now that they're mentioned (Mennen, English Leather) but most I've never heard of!!

That bottle of Seaforth brought back some memories michiganlover. I wonder why these companies focused so much upon a maritime theme.

Actually the Seaforths are a highland regiment. I'm pretty sure that they don't exist any longer in the UK, but I think that there are still Canadian Seaforths.

great thread!

I'm scouting out a bunch of obscure AS & cologne... but here's a popular one for you:

A place I frequent has had a half-bottle of something called Mark II sitting on the shelf for a year. Appears to be from the '60s...google turned up zip on it. Any old timers heard of it? EDIT: nevermind there's now an ad on eebay for it. 1964-ish.

Aha! I see you have them bottles of AV Redwood and the "Wild Moss" which was pretty "mossy" as i remember aka funky shmell.

The Purepac bottle was a brown medicinal bottle gotten from Rexall Drugstore in the late 60's i think and it was a TUFF Bay Rum. don't know who would have made it.

The Millionaire AS or cologne by Mennen may have been something my Dad got for a Christmas gift sometime a long time ago.

The Cool Spice was an 80's mennen AS that was kind of "odd" to say the least.

I picked up a bottle of Old Spice Burley a couple of months ago. It is really a shame they only made it for a short time, the stuff is great! I love it, and my wife loves it on me. Needless to say, it is reserved for only once a week at the most.
