What's new

Oh no! I LOVE the smell of Arko!

Opened my first ever stick of Arko tonight getting my gear ready for the morning shave.

Lovely, lemony goodness assaulted my nostrils. Clean, laundry fresh aromas flooded the den.

Citronella! It smells like citronella.

You can't get more Aussie than that.

Reminded me of summer nights, barbecued chops, cold beer & the mozzie zapper hummin' away...

Can't wait till tomorrow!

It seems like its a love it/hate it thing with Arko sticks. Personally I feel as you do - I LOVE the smell! It lathers like a beast too.
Also worth mentioning - I picked up some after shave balm and it is more of a mint/menthol aroma. Totally different but also quite good.

I'm right there with you! There's a small part of me that's always trying to figure out when my next lather with arko will be. Be glad that you can appreciate it!

Only question is how to lather.

First time with a stick and I'm not a genuine, regular face-lathering kind of guy; I usually bowl lather soaps and creams.

Have seen the vids, read the write-ups. Can it really be as simple as step out of shower, rub stick on wet face, apply damp brush and go?

FYI I've got an SR 3824 silvertip, an EJ BBB, 2 x Omega boars and a synthetic. I love the SR and it's my go-to brush for it's soft tips but nice amount of back-bone. Reckon that'll cut it?

My boars are both too big for my liking; bought in a fit of BAD.

Any advice appreciated! (although I have seen a guy who lathered Arko with an el-cheap Chinese paint brush!)

I use it that way daily, and it works great for me. One minor issue with this is that there is a tendency to have your lather sort of front loaded...that being your first pass is like Santa Claus, and the rest don't have quite as much. Your brush generally doesn't pick up quite as much lather internally as it would making the lather in a bowl. This has never really been a problem for me, as I don't need big thick lather for every pass, but prefer a thinner paint-on type coating on the second and later passes. Once solution to this, if you need it, is to just very lightly coat on the first pass (it does take much at all), then do a quick reapplication between passes if needed. This evens things out better than trying to get all of the soap you need on your face before the first pass.

That all said, it's super easy to squish Arko down into a bowl. You might need to reduce your load time a bit though...Arko's a crazy latherer.

I'm becoming more of an Arko fan with each shave. I've thought about getting the 12 pack of sticks and grating a couple into a bowl. I have a puck of Col. Conk's Almond, with smells great, and my tub of Proraso is superb, but there's something about the Arko that I like more than any other.

Now that you love the smell, you must taste it to see if you are truly an Arko love. I prefer mine on Triscuit Thins :letterk1:

It's powerful stuff. It takes over the entire bathroom. I had to move it to a storage closet.

I'm going with - DA TURKISH STINK BOMB

I agree with you that's its a great scent! In fact, I was a bit bummed when the scent started fading. The darn thing takes too long to use up!!! As to what to lather with...I've used all kinds of brushes and they work just fine with Arko. My Omega boars especially love it and I never find them to be "too big."

+1, I have a Derby Shave Stick, which is pretty much a brother or cousin of Arko, and I still get a lovely citronella intoxication with every shave!
