The scents of these soaps are top notch. To get the best from these soaps, face lather. As far as soaps go, I prefer to lather in a bowl, that's just how I like to do it. But for Ogallala soaps, they work best when using a face lather technique. So, if you are having difficulty with Ogallala soaps, try face lathering.

The first few times I tried Ogallala I could only make a decent lather by face lathering as well. I also prefer bowl lathering (soaps and creams) and was absolutely determined to figure out how to bowl lather Ogallala properly. I found the secret for me was to start with an even drier brush than I would normally use for other soaps. I also had to make sure I didn't get the puck too foamy during the loading process, I swirl the brush a little more slowy using a little more pressure than I would normally use with other soaps. The last step to getting perfect Ogallala lather in a bowl was to add water even slower than I normally would for other soaps and to also stir it in slowly to avoid producing foam.
Not sure why Ogallala is so darn different for me to lather but I am addicted to the scents, especially limes & peppercorns and sage & cedar. I feel that the extra effort is well worth it though since I make a freakin' mess when I try to face lather.

I really like them too. I have the sandlewood. You're right about less water. I whip it pretty gopd on the soap till you see a lather start with a pretty dry brush. Then to a bowl or face. Got an excellent shave Sat and think this will be in reg rotation

i'm completely infatuated with their bay rum and sandalwood after shave. i've written john about the possibility of a cologne...but he said there have been problems making it stronger.
in the meantime, i just use a bit more of the after shave.

I just ordered the shaving soap sampler on Friday and it should arrive today. Also ordered the $1 two ounce bay rum cologne sampler. I recieved a sample of the bay rum and lemongrass shaving soap from a fellow member earlier this year and really enjoyed it. Great products and customer service.
