Odd man out

I think I may be the odd man out here. I have had such good shaves with my Gillette Aristocrat, Wilkinson blades, Omega boar hair brush, and Proraso shaving soap that I can hardly imagine changing to anything else. I could probably get into collecting vintage safety razors, but I feel no impulse to search out new products. Am I a hopeless minimalist?

Good for you! Frankly I have found that some of the basics work just fine, and both the Aristocrat and Proraso are regulars for me as well.

Congrats  It all depends on how you look at it. Some want a variety of items for the fun of collecting and variety. Others just want a cheap good shave. You have achieved the latter.

You're using really good hardware and software. I've got silvertips and other badgers and yet my Omega 49 is the brush I reach for most mornings. Just found an Aristocrat and haven't used it yet but the thing is gorgeous and I hear it's a great mild razor. (Personally, I like my razors aggressive, but that's an individual preference thing.) Proraso is one of my favorites; the stuff is slick, lathers great and smells wonderful. I'm not crazy about Wilkies but everyone's preference for blades is different. If you haven't tried others, you might want to pick up a sampler (as you'd likely find blades you like more). But with regard to everything else, there's no question it's excellent stuff.

Whatever works for you my friend. Do whatever your happy with and gives you the best shave. Theres no need to go over board and buy 6 different razors, 250+ razor blades and 6 different creams. Your lucky really for some of us there is no hope .

Took me a while to figure out what I like, but now I use the same products for 95% of my shaves.
Whenever I try something new it never works as well and I vow to never do that again!

I enjoy reading about others who try a different soap/brush/razor combo every day.

Personally I find myself reaching for the same things and even enjoy a fully branded shave end-to-end: Proraso pre/cream/AS for example.

Whatever works mate.

I think that most of us could pick just one razor/blade/soap and be happy ever after but we don't want to or we are seeking something that might not exist, the perfect shave, but we keep on looking regardless.
If you can be happy with what you have go for it.

No. You have achieved what many other B&B members can only dream of. "AD" = Acquisition DISORDER.

Minimalism is good. Think of the ongoing frustration of endlessly searching for the "right" blade, or soap/cream, etc. Man, you have it made.

For me its not a search for the perfect combination but a reason to enjoy shaving, I could never imagine looking forward to a shave before becoming a DE addict.

Variation is the spice of life in many things:wink2:

I started my DE shaving career that way and pretty much use the same razor, brush and blades all the time now. However, hang around here long enough and that impulse will kick in. There's a lot of "support" here when it comes to buying new shaving gear.
