NYC Restaurants in Harlem and North

I am taking a cruise out of Pier 88 in Sept. I have been to NYC for business many times and have done the business restaurants (Peter Lugers etc). Done a bit of Lower East Side, Mid-town, Times Square and Upper East side for food. Did Upper West side on my last vacation. Now this trip the wife and I still haven't decided where to stay, but it will be in Manhattan (maybe even . So with that said Harlem for the change ) So with that said, my wife and I want to explore areas we are unfamiliar with (I'll do Brooklyn and Queens when I visit family). I am expecting some good things from Harlem, any ideas on where to go and what areas to avoid, especially if we rent a hotel there? Also we have done some Dli's, but never Katz's. Is it worth doing Katz's if I am only in town for roughly 1 3/4 days and want to explore Harlem North?
