What's new

Now THIS Is A Razor Kit

Since the artisan kits seem to be all the rage nowadays, I thought I'd show off my kit made by the original artisan razor builder -- the late and very talented Robert Smith who owned and ran Bob's Razor Works.

My kit consists of 4 heads (New Improved, Long Tooth NEW, Short Tooth NEW, and NEW De Luxe) along with 4 handles (Original Bull Mastiff, Bull Mastiff Deluxe XXL, Fluted, and, my personal favorite, Amboyna Burl). All heads and handles are fully interchangeable so I can mix and match to my heart's content.

It doesn't get much better than this. :001_smile

I miss Bob. His works lives on though. He was a sincere guy and always willing to help. He'd answer all of my oddest razor questions.

It is good to see more of Bob's work. Thanks for posting this fantastic pic of some of the finest custom razors around.

I have a fair number of Razors Bob made but only one wood set (razor and matching brush handle). The rest are metal handles.

I need to dig them all out and photo them all together like you have done but I need to get a panorama camera first :001_smile

Very nice ras; I knew that whatever you had was going to be great even before I opened the thread.

Question: Do you know how much your razor weighs with the Bull Mastiff handle?

Nice group! I feel fortunate to have one beautiful handle he made. I suppose many of us wish we had commissioned him for more of his work while he was doing it, I know I do.

That is the nicest "Kit" I have ever seem. One could end their OC RAD with the purchase of that alone, as it is perfect.

Do you know how much your razor weighs with the Bull Mastiff handle?

Here you go:

Amboyna Burl with New Improved head: 2.7 oz

Fluted with short tooth NEW head: 3.8 oz

Bull Mastiff with long tooth NEW head: 3.9 oz

Bull Mastiff Deluxe XXL with NEW De Luxe head: 4.6 oz

That's a beautiful collection you have there. I'm a huge fan of Bobs work and am lucky enough to own 3 razors and one. Handle made by him.
I will have to get my BRW family together for a photo.

Thanks ras--I appreciate that. I wish that I had bought one of those fluted handles when I had a chance. I finally decided to do it one day and that's when I discovered that he was no longer with us.

I guess I should add this one. Of all my BRW razors, this is the one most dear to me because I am pretty certain that it is a one-of-a-kind. The head is a vintage straight bar Hoffritz (a rarity in it's own right as virtually every vintage Hoffritz we see is a slant) and it's a different three-piece configuration from what Bob typically made.

It weighs in at 3.6 oz and the head has its original factory nickel plating. The head looks somewhat similar to the modern Merkur heads, but the build quality and plating is far better and it is a much more aggressive shaver.
