Now That's A Shame

I decided to try to straighten the bent teeth in my New Improved. I know that most of the time this doesn't work, but I thought I'd give it a shot. In my line of work (musical instrument repair) I've bent and straightened lots of brass parts, so I thought I'd give it a try. I started with the least bent tooth. It worked quite well. I got it level with the rest of the teeth and pretty straight. I foraged on ahead to the next bent tooth and.... Snap! This is the result. Bummer. Well, that's what I get for being a smart-guy.

I tried to straighten out an Old Type Single Ring handle that had a slight curve to it about a month ago. It didn't turn out well.

You need to use more heat. What type of source did you use?

I didn't. Normally, were I heating something like this, I would have used an acetylene torch, but I didn't think I would need to do that on this. I was wrong.

Bummer. I got an Old Type OC and one of the teeth was pretty crooked. I used a butter knife to straighten it a bit and it bent the tooth next to it just a hair. Now, instead of one really crooked tooth, I have two very slightly bent teeth. It does look a lot better now, so it was worth it. I was a bit worried about snapping it off.
