Noob restore mistakes

$IMAG0006.jpg$IMG_20130306_180421.jpgThe Lucite one I had big plans for, it was going to be my travel brush due to it's smallish size so I ordered a 18mm silvertip badger from TGN and started work on it. Here's the two BIG lessons I learned from this first restore, 1) Don't order your knot until the handle is finished and 2) Acetone can be your best friend AND your worst enemy. I couldn't get all the eopxy and paint out and I got impatient and just filled the cavity with Acetone an let it soak. It bubbled and crazed the Lucite to where I couldn't get it sanded smooth. I wrote it off to a bad job and epoxied the knot in yesterday and I used it tonight. It was going to just be a travel brush but it may be my daily now, I really liked it! The other was an impulse bid on the bay. When I got it I realized it was just a VDH (although it could be a Surrey too I guess) so I added the black stripes and put a black badger knot in it. Hopefully this helps anyone just starting like I am. I have two more in the works, here's hoping for fewer mistakes.

Perseverance pays off. We all learn from successes and mistakes.
I have rescued brushes that I thought were ruined by taking a second look and trying a second approach.
Keep up the good work.

My motto is, if you can shave with it, it's a success. The black badger looks great! Keep on keeping on.

My go to brush is a ivory colored home made polyester handle and a black badger brush. I like the black on white look - yours turned out very nice.

Thanks a lot guys!! Any encouragement is always welcome. I just used the silver tip with my TOBS rose scent and I'm really liking it, it's ugly but it's my favorite now LOL
