Non-Gillette - What is this razor?

Hi guys,

I know there have been quite a few threads asking this same question lately, but I really have no idea who made this razor. I picked this up at a shop a few weeks ago along with an older Injector. This is a three piece. After using it for a week, I find that it is a closer shaver / more aggressive than the Feather portable. There are no markings at all on this - inside or out. After browsing here and the rest of the net, I think the head looks similar to some of the Barbasol two piece razors. What say you all?

Thanks for the quick reply Bob. But after looking at pictures of Star three piece razors here in the B/S/T, I don't think it is. All of the Star's pictured have a "tab" on the alignment pin in the cap - this razor doesn't. Also, the safety bar of this razor is toothed, whereas the Star's are smooth. Do you have a link to another site showing this one? I've been looking and can't find one.

Weird that looks like a Barbasol DE head on a Durham Duplex handle.

I have a couple of handles like that. I think they might be from a Durham Duplex razor. I agree that the head looks like it is from a Barbasol razor.

Looks like a wade & butcher handle to me. Very nearly identical to a durham duplex handle, just where the knurling ends at the bottom, the durham has a wider taper, and the wade & butcher drops off abruptly.

Thanks guys! I went and looked at the Durham handles, and yes, it does look like that. Well, I guess I'm the proud owner of a Frankenrazor! :w00t: *Edit* Thanks amishmotorboat - I think you're right. In the second picture, I just noticed I had the handle upside down. I grabbed the razor and it looks more like the Wade and Butcher.

I must say that this razor has a nice heft to it although it is a little handle heavy. I had to adjust a bit to keep the no pressure mantra in mind, but it was a sweet shaver for the week and will be making more appearances in the future. Thanks again.

Hmm. The duplexes came with that more abrupt taper as well?
I withdraw my assertion that it's wade & butcher then, due to the durham duplexes larger numbers.

Very very cool: I didn't know Wade and Butcher made DE razors.

There's one at a shop near me, excellent shape except for a spot or two coming through the plating on the head. I'd have already picked it up but it's unpriced and no one there to ask, really. Besides, it won't take a modern DE blade. :mad3: Cool, chunky handle, though.

That's no problem...you can buy the carpet cutting blades from Home Depot, load up that Durham and give it a go. I did a while back with mine and have to say it was interesting. The blade was about as sharp as I can get a Rolls or Wilkinson, which is to say, not very. But at least I tried it!

You gotta admit, that humungous head is intimidating...
