Noah's Ark found; experts "99.9% sure"

I mean, it would be interesting if it were Noah's Ark, but attempting to "prove" to skeptics that Scripture really is true flat doesn't work.

If we found Eden, the Ark, Jesus' tomb and evidence of the Nephilim all in a day because Elijah flew down out of the clouds and told us where everything was people still wouldn't believe...

I did my undergraduate and graduate work in Archaeology prior to getting my Master's in Education and I'm holding judgement until we see some concrete research from the objective scientific community. I can tell you that 99.999% of archaeologists do not reveal finds like this until they are 100% sure. And even then, they don't reveal findings to the press first. They work through the professional/academic channels first to make sure they have everything right. If I had to hypothesize, I would say they did indeed find a wooden structure as they show in the photos, but rather than the ark, it's some sort of early habitation.

Let's see, a 4000 meter flood. Remaining evidence: some wooden planks. Damn, why am I still skeptical....

My religious beliefs are probably different than most of yours and I do not ever intend on offending someone as your beliefs get you through the day and that is fantastic.

Having said that, with a religion that is based on "faith", when everyone discredits most of the artifacts that have been found such as the ark or the shroud it does not make a whole lot of sense.
What I mean is, it seems that billions of people believe but do not believe at the same time. just curious.

There was a flood.

How do we know there was a flood?

Because every religion in the world has a version of the flood story.

Now the timing of the flood varies and the reasons why vary. But for religious records all over the world to log the event tells us that there must be a degree of truth to it. Including religions that predate Judaism.

Add to that records of saltwater fossils inland or in freshwater lakes and the picture becomes more clear.

Now we do know that the Abrahamic religions (Judaism, Christianity, Islam) borrow heavily from other religions that predate them. So the story of Noah is most likely a retelling of a flood story picked up from the Sumerians (like so many other stories borrowed from them)

I think you'll find an assortment of answers to this question. I believe religion is a deeply personal relationship between you and God. some will take the Bible and interpret everything in it as the literal truth, and others will look to it for spiritual or moral guidance - eg. the parables of Jesus. I believe in Jesus, the historical figure, but I don't believe any of the stories from the Old Testament per se. I think there are a lot of half-truths in the Bible which is why I can't take claims like Noah's Ark or even the Ark of the Covenant too seriously. I guess I prefer hard, scientific data to prove the existence of tangible or intangible objects. I don't say these things to mock anyone's faith either. I attend church myself but I'm an agnostic.

I found the oddest seashell at the beach the other day. Never seen anything like it.

Clearly, it is direct evidence that Neptune exists. There can be no other explanation.

Also, I left an offering of liquor, tobacco and money for my Maximón figurine a few months back. Then I won some money in the office March Madness pool. Coincidence? I think not.

The only problem is that I've found evidence for so many conflicting belief systems that I don't know what to believe any longer. They can't all be true, can they?

Oh, and if this ark turns out to be a hoax, would that invalidate your belief system?

I enjoy that general hostility towards religion is tolerated, but political threads get nuked early on.

All I meant in my previous post is that Christians looking to prove Scripture to skeptics will never get anywhere with it (it's not like we haven't tried for several thousand years). I don't believe it was inflammatory or deserving of ridicule, and there's little I could present here without sparking contentious arguments that would have the thread locked down.

Edit: I don't mean to single you out, either (it's happened in other threads and even in earlier posts here).
