No aftershave?

I don't use aftershave or cologne either. The closest thing to that sort of product that I use, I suppose would be the "beard oil" (I still have a goatee) I use after I shower. I pour a dime size snurl in my palm and them massage it into my beard, makes it less dry and "wiry". Then I rub the remainder on my neck then my arms and the backs of my hands as I'm prone to dry patches there.

Probably. Or there a few.

I went years not using aftershave or any post-shave other than water rinse. I'm using it now because I like bay rum fragrance, and for me there is no downside that I'm aware of.

Classic case of YMMV here--my AS splash is the icing on the cake, the cherry on my sundae, the sine qua non of my shave, in short, it's da best part!!

I don't use cologne and I didn't use an aftershave when I used electric razor/cartridge razor. When I first joined this forum I wondered why people talked about "fragrances" so much.

Now I get it although I've limited my aftershaves to Pinaud products. As mentioned above, it's just the finishing touch and I like the smell. It doesn't stay around all that long so I still don't feel like I'm using a cologne. I also use an unscented/lightly scented balm so there is no drying out going on as a result of the alcohol.

I've even caught myself applying aftershave on a day after the shower where I didn't actually shave :) It's just a (good smelling) habit now.

I always put something on. I always finish with the alum, then I use either nivea, proraso, aos as balm or my favorite right now is raw coco butter. Rosewater after works well and relieves irritation if you got some.

If you consider the other ingredients, you don't necessarily have to avoid anything just on account of the alcohol.

When I cartridge shaved, I used as much alcohol as possible. Sometimes straight isopropyl. I figured with that many open wounds it would be best to try and prevent infection.

Now that I DE shave and there's no bloodletting, I used Clubman because I found out it did really great things to my skin. But then I was chosen by the Veg, and there's just no returning.

I often see people worried about the alcohol in aftershaves and I think there is a lot of confusion about what it will do to your face. There are other ingredients in aftershave that are good for your skin and the alcohol serves it's purpose. Plus it's not like you're putting strait rubbing or denatured alcohol on your face.

I have dryer skin with some face psoriasis and I have zero problems with aftershaves. If I'm really dry due to work or the weather I just follow the aftershave with a good quality unscented face moisturizer.

Everyone's skin is different and I'll bet there are a lot of people who have never even tried alcohol based aftershaves just because of that one ingredient.

Hmm it just came to me, I wonder how many people won't put alcohol on their face because they are worried what it will do to their skin but don't mind putting it into their stomachs without worrying about what it does to the inside of your body? HAH

Am I the only one that uses no aftershave? I definitely don't use anything with alcohol in it (stings a tiny bit and very drying) and when I have I just used this: http://www.theartofshaving.com/Afte...fter-shave&navid=shaving-products-after-shave because it made me the least oily later in the day..

but god I hate how oily I feel later in the day if I use any aftershave..

am I alone here? heh..
When I started shaving I couldn't use aftershave regularly due to complexion problems. Later on I used it. When my face was irritated with the multiblade razors I used Avon Moisture Cream. Now I use alcohol-based aftershaves most of the time. I don't use witchhazel-based aftershaves because of the greasiness you are talking about.

Once a month or so, I will use an aftershave. My skin gets really oily later in the day if use a moisturizing aftershave or one with glycerin.

Witch hazel was literally considered a suitable gift for a king back in the day. Use it after shaving and you will see why.

I use after shave but I will admit that I do doctor some up with a couple drops of glycerine and Aloe if they do not provide the moisturizing effect I like.

I have not used an AS for DECADES. Now, when I am back to REAL wet shaving (DE and SE instead of disposables), I cannot consider a shave being 100% without a liberal splash of Clubman. Thanks B&B for that.

From what you are saying, it might be that you are just like me. You don't like the stingy feeling of alcohol, and you don't like to feel your face like is oily or it doesn't breath. I not only have this problem, but I also have problems with scents, having a burn sensation reaction to the fragrances in it.

I personally don't mind alcohol, but it dries my face too much. So instead, I gave up using alcohol based aftershaves and used aftershave balm for a while. It does feel greasy a bit, yet I kept trying to find something better, and less aggressive. What I did find, is that too much glycerin in aftershaves will make my skin "draggy", closing the pores, making it even worse of a feeling then feeling my face greasy/oily. However, if you want to find something that works for you, the least oily aftershaves are the ones made with grapeseed and or jojoba oil, which are thinner and are much more easy absorbed into the skin. Also, avoid glycerin heavy aftershaves. Also, try to find Aftershave Fluid instead of balm, as it will have significantly less "greasy" matter in it. What I used lately and it makes my face feel awesome, however it does have some alcohol based ingredients which sting a bit, is Alverde Aftershave Balm. It smells herbal, almost unscented (they state in the ingredients list that they use only essential oils), it does sting a bit from the the alcohol, but overall, is the least greasy/oily aftershave that actually has good moisturizing properties. It also is cheap.
