Hi there... I have been using a DE razor (the classic Merkur HD) for about 9 months now and feel ready to move to the next step razor-wise. What would be a good next razor? A closer shave is - I suppose - what I am going after...
Sorry, you are right. I have a cold and I guess my drowsy cold medicine is affecting my reading comprehension.I think a Futur may be a bit heavy, given the OP's concern about weight. An unmodified Progress may be just the ticket.
If you are after a closer shave than that offered by a HD,you might want to try a "slant"

If you're merely looking for a closer shave, IMO you don't really need anything beyond the HD.. Coupled with a good sharp blade of your choice, the HD will provide as close a shave as about anything out there... I shaved with an Indian Wilkinson in my HD yesterday, and absolutely could not believe how close a shave this combo delivered, and that Wilkinson already had five shaves under it's belt.
All this talk might lead someone to believe that the Merkur is my favorite razor. It's not! But it's a tool that gets grudging respect...
Now, if you just want another razor, which everyone here can certainly understand, the field is wide open!
I think Loner16's right. I just want another razor. So after reading more, I think I might try an open comb for a change. The 3 Merkurs that I can get hold of at the place I usually buy from are the 1904, 12C and 15C. Of these, I am leaning towards the 15C as it's the lightest. Any thoughts?
