Newbie question regarding DE razors

Hello, I am new to the world of wet shaving and although I have not started I am gradually working my way into wet shaving. My main questions is regarding the selection of a DE razor. I have seen some people recommend the Lord L6 or some similar razor for beginners looking for an inexpensive razor. On my own however I have been looking and was wanting something that would possibly last but at a somewhat inexpensive price. I had seen the Matador Capa series that run for about $25 and wondered if the closed comb versions would be a good choice. I was also considering a Parker 22L but I am not sure about the reliability of the butterfly closure. If there are any other suggestions I would be open to hearing them.

Thanks.

Chuck

Welcome to B&B!

Many people start with a vintage Gillette razors. They are solidly built and many user grade razors are available at low cost. Once you get the hang of DE shaving, you can figure out what features you like and decide if you want a contemporary model or want a particular vintage razor. I would start with a superspeed or a Tech. If you follow the BST, you can pretty much find whatever you are looking for.

Start with a vintage Gillette Tech or Super Speed, they pop up on the BST for under $20 regularly.

Hello chgruver, welcome also. You might try a modern razor, if you can find one cheap enough, however I would suggest a vintage Gillette Super Speed. They can be had on eBay for as little as $10, or as much as $50. I would send you one, but all my razors are accounted for. But search eBay or local antique stores and you'll find something suitable. And don't forget to share a photo or two with us when you get one. By the way, tere are constraints about using the B&B BST. You have to be a member for 45 days, and have a minimum of 50 posts to use it. Anyway enjoy your time on this forum, it's a good community Have a great day!

I am a big proponent of the Lord L6 / 1822, but if you are looking for something that is heavier and more solidly build, the Merkur 34C HD and the Edwin Jagger DE89 are very good choices.
As for vintage razors, well, all of the other posters got that covered.
