What's new

New Weber Comments/Questions

First shave today with the new polished Weber/classic handle and IP blade.

Felt kind of harsh, but I normally like mild razors. Ended up with a BBS, no nicks, no weepers--possibly the closest shave I've accomplished in s nine months of trying. The razor looks great, and the handle is wonderful for anyone who likes a longer handle.

How aggressive do you guys consider this razor? I'm going to be getting a second SS, and trying to decide between the Titan M-1 and Tradere SB, and I would like something less aggressive than this.

I realize this was my first shave, but I'm also curious what others like for blades in these. I'll be trying an Astra, Gillette black, & Shark SC.

I just tried mine (Weber Polished Classic) this morning. It was moderately aggressive with an Astra SP blade in it. I would say it was similar to a Slim or Black Beauty at 6 or 7. I am going to try a Shark and a Feather in it next to test it further.

When it comes to the others, Samjax said it best.

The Tradere SB is a very nice razor - very smooth and close shave - no real negatives.

I haven't tried the newest iKons - but I have owned the OSS and the S3S. They were both very mild shavers and in the case of the S3S, very over-priced as well. The OSS was the better razor - although a very mild one. I'm hopeful that the new offerings will be better "all-around" performers than what has been produced so far.

The Titan - in spite of much hoopla, is not a particularly good shaver. It shaves in fact, like a $30 New York Shaving Mariner with 1 shim in it. So close in fact, that you will not be able to tell the difference. With that said, it is a wonderfully built product, I just found it to be woefully overpriced for the results it produced (or lack thereof). I certainly wouldn't buy one new (which of course I did on pre-order for $185), you can find them almost daily on the B/S/T forum, which should indicate something.

The iKons I have used are very much akin to the EJ89, Superspeed, Weber DLC type of razors in terms of aggression.

The Tradere SB will give you results very much like a Merkur Slant.

The Tradere OC 2nd Gen will get you very close to a Fatip or Cadet.

The Titan H will get you close to a Muhle R41.

Sounds about right--I normally use my Slim on 3. I've seen the reviews on the H-1, but I'm interested in the M-1. I have a Feather I need to BST and want to replace it with something.

I normally use a Slim on 5, so not too much of a change for me. The Feathers are the mildest of the SS razors, similar to a Gillette Tech, or a Slim on 1 or 2. I have heard they can give very smooth shaves with a very sharp blade, such as a Feather.

I consider the Weber to be about as mild as I'd want. I started with milder razors, so I understand how it feels a bit more aggressive than some. But it's only a little bit so. If you got a your best shave ever from the Weber, and it feels aggressive, I'd suggest waiting a bit before buying another razor. It sounds to me like you're still refining technique and zeroing in on your preferences. If looking for something to replace the Feather and you want to go mild, get something inexpensive/vintage and see how it stacks up over time against the Weber for your beard. A Tech or flare-tip SuperSpeed or something.

I could be wrong, and I totally understand your wanting what you want, and wanting it now. Go ahead and indulge if you have the ducats. Perhaps I should just say my own experience is... I have razors more and less aggressive. I started with the milder razor. Now, I use the Weber perhaps most; but I often reach for something more aggressive, and just about never for something less so.

Well said.

I appreciate the input. I already have bunch of vintage razors--FB, slim, techs, superspeeds. I'm planning on having some extra $$ when I get the Feather sold, so there will be some money burning a hole in my pocket(actually PayPal account) shortly.

If you want an excellent SS razor that is milder than the Weber PH, wait until the DLCs come out. i guarantee that they will be milder than the PH one and i would not get the Tradere SB as it is much more aggressive than your Weber. i have no experience with the Titan M1, but for the price, the DLC is the best SS razor, in my opinion. If you find it a tad mild, you can just use one shim and you will get a very, very close and comfortable shave with no irritation. Good luck.

I thought all the Weber heads were the same except for the finishes??

The only Weber I have is the original DLC Classic...which I use with an iKon OSS handle. I used it just this morning actually with a new Israeli Personna. Extremely smooth shave - more aggressive than a Super Speed, Tech or 89. The DLC is 2 shims away from shaving like a Tradere SB or Slant.

Weber on it's own - great, smooth shave. Weber with 2 shims - great, smooth and moderately aggressive shave.

Any way you look at it, the Weber gives you a pretty good return on your money.

I suppose I did make a few too many assumptions -- thanks for taking it in the spirit meant. If presumably the Feather is milder than you want, and you find the Weber a shade too aggressive, then you have a narrow sweet spot. I don't know enough about the other new stainless options from direct experience; but it seems, from reading Samjax' posts, that the Tradere might be the right one.

I use a Tradere handle on a FaTip, by the way. It's an elegantly weighte and knurled thing. I like the way it feels. I think the flared bottom is a bit much, visually, so wish that was more subdued. But it makes the FaTip a much better shaver. I approve of the only half of a Tradere with which I I have experience, at least!
